This is the time of yr I find myself wanting to beat him with a ball bat.....
He does this every yr, sits back and let's player after player slip by without even an effort to fill a need with one until all the quality players are signed.....
I am aware of the cap, but some of these could have been gotten on the cheap, and I know we got Steve Smith last yr and Doom late also 2 yrs ago, but you can't bank on those kind of bargains all the time....
I am an old horse trader myself but sometimes I find you just have to pay the money if you want the good stuff...
I know he has a plan and I may be waving his banner when the season starts, but right now, I want to pop him in the head and say C'mon man, Anthony Levine, Really ???

This is where you have to look at the best teams in the league and honestly they are rarely very active the first week of FA. They are fine watching all the big names go off the board early for big time money that eventually will kill a team Cap Wise in a couple of years and will never live up to the contract. They are willing to wait for that 2nd wave of guys that will sign the short-term prove it deals for many times undermarket value. Now yes they will not be the big time splash that a fan base can get behind but they can quickly go from no name prospects to household names in a matter of a year or two. Heck some of the Broncos best signings over the last couple of years have not been the big name guys like DeMarcus Ware but the smaller name guys in Terrance Knighton and Emmanuel Sanders. They were both gotten for very average contracts but then both played at Pro Bowl level way above what the Contract is worth.

I know but the wait is tortuous...Guys like Stills, Wallace and Chandler that we could have really used, went for pretty meager deals as I understand it, I know it's a proven formula but I just wonder when that one yr, it's gonna bite us in the butt......

I hear you, we all crave that off season fix, where a talent is signed to the team. What is the Ravens cap situation?

Can't it be argued that the best teams in the league already have enough in the cupboard that they don't have to be as aggressive?

It is true that is part of the equation. When you have talent you don't need to go looking as much for it. I keep reading of some Bronco fans that are not excited by the fact the Broncos let a few of our FA's walk this year and haven't been aggressive in FA but how quickly some of them have forgotten this team had 10 Pro Bowlers last year and 9 of them are still with the team.

This is also where you are seeing the best teams are doing some cool things of getting some of the stats nerds to come in and help them with FA to see which players maybe are those hidden gems that other teams might not quite see the potential.

Not quite sure where the cap is now, I think with Ngata's 8.5 mil, we're at about 12 mil or so unless they trade or cut Webb who is way over paid and can't stay on the field.

Great teams know how to manage their caps to maximize overall talent and often going after the first week FA's isn't fiscally sound.

Seattle had to go after anything and everything when Carroll came in and they found talent literally in every possible way.

It's not when you find the talent, but the quality of it that counts. Doing things just to do them will never build a quality team.

I agree that you can still sign those big name players as long as they then produce for you on the field. The big thing is just making sure that what you pay is what you are actually getting. Such as next year it looks like Suh will be the highest paid player in the league. Well at this point is he really deserving of being the highest paid player in the league (cap hit is what I am meaning) I would say no. So then to me that contract can become a huge hindrance for the Dolphins after this upcoming season. It almost feels more like a load up this year to try and unseat the Patriots and then know you go into Cap Hell next year. I'm just not big on the one year go all in idea that sacrifices the future.

That's why I started with going after the early FA's is often not fiscally sound.

To me the early FA's is the low lying fruit meant for teams that are way under budget that need to spend money.

The smarter front offices know how to find talent that doesn't break the bank.

Some of the more successful teams like Green Bay and Pittsburgh upgrade via the draft.

It makes me happy that you are frustrated. It makes me very sad that Ozzie is being smart.....

All good teams use the draft as the main way to keep the new talent coming. I think it's smart to also look at trades and a occasional FA. Trading with Buffalo for Lynch was a key step for the Seahawks.

We all know how Ozzie runs the ship and how effective he is at doing it.....It's the waiting for something to happen that is tortuous and the chance that we could end up with a Lee Evans as TS's replacement that concerns me.....
I know the draft is deep with wr's this yr but they don't always start or make the cut at the NFL level.....
Let's be honest brother, Ozzie has been closer to terrible than not at picking wr's and qb's in the draft, so it's hard to tell what he will do to fill that void that TS left, 11 Td's ain't shabby........

You guys have one of the best in the biz...often the villain, but the Ravens always field a competitive team. Ozzie is old school...prefers to draft, patches holes with 2nd 3rd tier FAs...Dumerville was probably the last big name guy...139.5 per overthecap...leaves barely enough to sign a draft class so it goes to show that Ngata was strictly a cap casualty...they have to find some more money.

I'm just impatient ATL, we did just sign a safety from the Texans (Kendrick Lewis)that was ranked higher than Stewart who went to Denver.....I didn't like Stewart's game anyway so good riddance to him....
Can't figure out why Kubes didn't go after the Texan instead though....
