Why does everyone think Central Michigan will win the MAC?

MAC is wide wide open. Buffalo, Kent State, Toledo etc all have as good a shot as anyone and there are 3 or 4 other teams that could win it too. My program defaults to CMU because of their superior overall record.

Losing to Duke and Louisville gets you jumped by a team that lost to Seton Hall and Georgetown?

UVA and Nova are very close in resume. UVA has the slightly better SOS and OOC SOS but Nova has the better RPI. In the end it came down to Novas superior record vs the top 25 and top 50 ( 6-1 vs the Top 25 and 11-1 vs the top 50 as compared to UVA's 5-2 and 8-2 ).. Its close though. To me if either UVA or Duke win the ACC toruney they will jump Nova for 2 overall even if Nova wins the BE tourney. A more interesting question is does the team that loses in the ACC tourney maintain a 1 seed if Zona and Wisky win their conference tourneys?? I say no.

It will be much easier now that Duke is ranked #2 in the AP, if they win the ACC Tourney, they award Virginia and Duke a #1 seed. It will be harder for Duke to get a #1 seed if they lose a game in the ACC Tournament. UVA can withstand a loss IMHO. What happens if Duke and UVA both lose in the ACC Tourney? That may come down to who beats them. Villanova isn't a lock to win the BE Tournament. Wisconsin is hitting on all cylinders right now and AZ has a long winning streak but anything can happen in these tournament games.

Duke and UVA is an interesting argument. UVA won the ACC but the numbers otherwise favor Duke, better RPI. better SOS overall and OOC, better top 25 and 50 RPI records. Im not sure who could deal with a loss better frankly.

You're nuts rmilia. I'll be surprised if Nova makes the elite 8 and beyond shocked if they get to the final four. I think they will be the first one seed to lose and that's why I hope they are the 1 in the west

That's just stupid. Butler made the Final 4 two years in a row. And VCU and Wichita State have made the Final 4.

Anybody saying that they are shocked if a #1 seed makes the Final 4 is just hating on a team. Which go ahead, keep hating. You've hated on them since last year. God knows why.

Would you be more shocked if Villanova or West Virginia made the Final 4? If you say West Virginia has no chance to make the Final 4, then you have no idea how this tournament works. Or if you need a reminder, you can check to see how many times Arizona was a high seed and went out in the first round.

So it would surprise you if Nova beat the following: UNC, Northern Iowa, Arkansas, Baylor, WVU, Louisville, Wichita State and Utah?? Because those are the projected 4/5 seeds at the moment. You think the Big 12 is overrated so you can't say WVU or Baylor. UNC is 1-7 against the top 25. Utah is looking extremely overrated at this point, with only 1 top 25 win. Nova might hang 110 on Arkansas, who also has 1 top 25 win.

It would be surprising if Nova LOST to any of those schools IMO. With that said, they could lose in the 2nd round, or win it all. Because anything can happen. The person claiming they had Uconn winning it all last year, would be the first.

Not sure how you get the numbers favor Duke.

RPI
Duke = .6630
UVa = .6622
The difference is so small you really can not use RPI has an argument.

Duke vs 1-25 = 6-1
UVa vs 1-25 = 5-2

Duke vs 26-50 = 3-1
UVa vs 26-50 = 3-0

Duke vs 51-100 = 8-1
UVa vs 51-100 = 7-0

Duke is 17-3 vs Top 100
UVa us 15-2 vs Top 100

What I was mostly trying to point out was that I think rmilia is crazy if he thinks Nova is better than Wisconsin, Duke, UVA, Arizona.

They are definitely a top 8 team, but since when do all top 8 teams make the Elite 8? Never. And If I was betting, Nova, Gonzaga, and Kansas are the 3 I would bet against making the E8.

Yes, I think the B12 is overrated because they have a bunch of solid and no great teams, Kansas included. Doesn't mean I think WVU or Baylor couldn't beat Nova. No need to take what I've said in the past and mold it into what you want.

It's hilarious that I say I don't think Nova will make the final four and you get all up in arms, but someone said he thinks Kentucky (you know, the team that went undefeated in the regular season) won't and nobody even said anything about that. Guess Big East fans are just a little more sensitive

Actually, I'll be surprised if anyone outside of the 1 and 2 seeds makes the final four. I just feel like this is a wierd year where there's a huge drop off after the top 8 teams.

Its Kentucky....
...
...
Virgina, Duke, Zona, Wisconson, Nova, Zaga, Kansas
...
...
...
Everyone else

I'm struggling to find the Uconns and Kentuckys of last year. Where are they?

I admit that my time investment in college basketball (outside of Arizona) is way down this year... so maybe its a product of me taking too much of my knowledge from highlights and review articles (where the top teams get most of the attention). What do you guys think?

When I look at the "vs top-25 rpi" breakdown of the top 8 teams... I understand better why Duke and Nova are getting the 1's over Zona and Wisconsin

Kentucky: 5 - 0
Virginia: 5 - 2
Duke: 6 - 1
Villanova: 6 - 1

Zona: 3 - 0
Wisconsin: 2 - 2
Gonzaga: 1 - 1
Kansas: 7 - 4

There may be a mid-major arise because they are playing great team ball that we just haven't seen because they are flying under everyone's radar. But I think you've pretty much nailed it form the top 8.

People say this same crap every year.....it's nonsense

A few teams WILL get hot and a 5+ seed or 2 WILL make the FF. You can take that to the bank.

It's not the fact about what you said, but how you said it. You'd be "shocked" if they made it. When the hell is a #1 seed making the Final Four "shocking"?

Especially when Nova is a consensus top 5 team?

Wouldn't you get up in arms if I said Zona making the Final Four would be shocking to me? My guess is you probably would.

I don't know about taking that to the bank. In the last 12 years, at least one 5+ seed has made the final four just 6 times.

So you've got a .500 shot at a 5+ seed crashing the final four. I really think those odds are less this year, specifically.
