If Manning injured the quad on December 14th, that doesn't explain why his season went downhill because he started playing poorly much earlier. He started going downhill NOVEMBER 16th vs the Rams. Remember how bad he was that game? How bad he was vs the Bills? Of course this injury hurt his play the last few weeks, but he started playing poorly way before the injury. So the injury can't be a complete excuse for his season going downhill.

The biggest reason for how poorly he played against the Rams is because the offense was exposed as being one dimensional and the Rams just pass rushed the entire game. Their defensive line was far more physical than our offensive line. I mean, if you want to say that, why not question him going downhill because of his poor play in the Super Bowl? The same thing happened there. The very next week against Miami he was 28-35 for 257 yards, 4 TDs and 0 INTs.

The decline really began to show against Kansas City.

Doublejive, he is probably best ignored. That is generally how we deal with him.

Obviously with your response you didn't ignore me to well. I get it most of you guys hate me but I'm not here to make friends. I'm hear to give my opinion and all of you can read what I post or none of you read it is your choice. I'll make it easy for ya just block all my messages. Yet you ignore me but post on a thread I started. Very good logic.

You seem very bitter.

No just don't really care about your injuries just like you wouldn't care about mine. Sorry if I hurt your feelings but just ignore me then. Pretty simple concept.

Remember though this thread is about Manning's possible injury and thoughts on that so lets try to stick to the subject for now on. That includes me as well.

One thought keeps circling round and round in my head.

A torn quad on a football player essentially forces them to play on one leg (not hard to understand). I've torn my right quad twice and it took 6 weeks to heal both times.....it hurt like a mothereffer even rolling over in bed.

Now considering he was playing on one leg.......was there EVER any consideration to putting Brock in? I mean, I understand it was win or go home time, but what does this say about the brass' confidence in Brock really being the future, and if they don't really think so then WTF have we been "grooming" him for?

I was so frustrated after yesterday. It's about tenfold today.

Same here. This is the way I look at it. After seeing what happened in Cincy, why wouldn't they play Osweiler against the Raiders for the entire game? If he can't beat the Raiders with all that talent, what does that say about Osweiler? And, since Cincy lost to the Steelers anyway, it meant the Raider game was largely meaningless (I know we didn't know this at game time). Just goes to show you that the coaching staff has no confidence in Osweiler.

It was not a full tear so I doubt it was quite to the one-leg spectrum. I have thought about why they did not give Brock a chance. I think Manning is always the starter until he retires or physically unable to play at all. I am not sure that it is an indication of confidence in Brock but a reverence for Manning.

Regardless.....if he was that incredibly gimped out by it, then you can't tell me that a fully healthy Osweiler wouldn't have given us at least as good a chance. Especially if we gave him first team reps for two week leading up to the game.

I know, with Manning, it's a pride thing. He's the starter.....always has been, always will be. However, if he can't go out there and even run up field 5 yards to help us sustain drive then we should've made the change at some point just to give us a chance to win. Manning clearly wasn't going to do that yesterday.

Now the team has come out and said that the injury was just a strain and not a tear.

Peyton Manning has strained, not fully torn, right quad, source says - The Denver Post

That makes sense. There's no way a player can play on a completely torn quad. He did not have a torn quad. You would have seen him limping badly if he had a torn quad. Manning said he actually felt a lot better going into this game after the extra week of rest. I'll trust that he's not a liar.

Not just that, but he looked relatively mobile on the plays where he scrambled out of the pocket. He wasn't a statue at all, so I find it questionable just how much the injury was affecting him.

Personally, I think that the first report came out of the Manning camp and the second out of the Denver camp.

The QB depth chart always made me somewhat nervous.......

Elway once said "We have Plan A and there is no Plan B"......And we paid for that gamble.

Frustrating.

If it makes you feel better, 30 other teams fail at their offseason moves too. At least we are not alone.

I didn't mean that in any negative way. I love the job Elway has done.

Just pointing out that the back up QB spot was a bit thin.....but Manning has a history of not missing time, so it is understandable.

Osweiler was supposed to be groomed. Plan A was purely for Manning. Osweiler was drafted that same year. Elway's plan would have been to keep Tebow instead and let him fight Osweiler for the starting job. Would have been nice if they drafted Russell Wilson instead, huh?

That's the thing.....when has Manning "groomed" anyone? It's not a negative thing...we were on a mission to win the ultimate prize. I get it. I just wish we had an "In Case of Emergency-Break Glass" vet on the roster that could have played in Manning's place when he originally got hurt. Kind of like Bubby Brister did in our second Super Bowl winning season.

I realize there are very few players that can run our system, but it was just something that bugged me a little bit. Kind of a "rich people problem". Not a big deal.

I don't expect that Manning was supposed to groom him as opposed to Gase showing he was capable of bringing a QB along (since QB coach is where he was before OC). I think Elway's idea here was that, if Manning went down, the Super Bowl dreams were over. There was no TD to carry the team during any Manning injury.

I mean, I get where you're coming from, I just don't think that Elway thought he could dedicate that much money to Manning, bring in a serviceable back-up in the mold of Brister, and make the roster better. At that point, I think maybe Manning should have done a solid and taken less money.

I think we are on the exact same page.....just saying it a little differently.

It is what it is. And if we hire Gase as the Head Coach, I will be interested to see what the "post Manning plan" really is. Hiring an unproven Head Coach for a 40 year old QB, could prove to be risky.
