He's been playing better lately but the guy just shouldn't be a starter on an NBA team. He might have potential, and sure in 2-3 years he might be better, but right now he is NOT a good basketball player, in fact he is a bad player. Look at his stats at 82games.com
DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors, NBA player stats
The Raptors are 8 points worse per 100 possessions offensively when DeMar is on the court, and they are 8 points worse defensively per every 100 possessions on the court. In total when DeMar is on the court, the Raptors are SIXTEEN POINTS WORSE PER 100 POSSESSIONS. Now I'll be the first to say that stats don't tell the whole story, but every statistical indicator says the Raptors are better off with DeMar on the bench than with him on the court.
For the season, the Raps are -269 when Demar is on the floor, and +96 when he isn't. In terms of play, that's about the difference between the Chicago Bulls, and Cleveland Cavaliers this season. It's crazy.
The Raptor's recently moved into dead last in defensive efficiency for this season, and DeMar has THE WORSE defensive point differential on the team (even worse than Bargnani), and every stat says they are a worse offensive team when he's on the floor too.
My greatest fear is that he's going to finish this season averaging like 18 ppg and BC is going to give him an extension for 5 years and 40 million, and we get to enjoy him and Andrea as our two best players for the next decade.
So here is the new truth for this message board until someone can provide overwhelming evidence to the contrary: DEMAR DEROZAN IS A BAD PLAYER, IN THE SAME CLASS AS THE WRIGHT BROTHERS (Julian, and Antoine) WITH THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN AVERAGE/MEDIOCRE PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. Everyone got it? Ok good. Now we can move on.
