Davis had 29 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots in his first NBA game in his hometown.
Looks like the kid has ice in his veins too.
It is so fucking hard to block a shot against people who know how to play ball let alone in the NBA, he amazes me on how easy it looks for him.he was a beast tonight, the nuggets really helped the pelicans out by sitting out nuric and turning the ball over but drop 50 is never an easy task
If New Orleans can't put a worthy roster around Davis they need to put him up for trade and get 4 first rd picks and a couple of good NBA players for him.
It would be a huge price but for a team in the right market and a solid roster it would make sense.
It might also make sense for New Orleans since they probably won't be able to attract top free agents.
Oh, Davis is the best young talent to come along in a long time.
I do not agree that they should trade Davis anytime soon. They still have multiple years with him under team control.
What they need to do is trade Holliday and Evans (at least 1) for players who fit better with Davis. I like the Hield pick, but the front office has really done a poor job of fitting that roster together. When you have a truly dominant player like Davis, you need to run your offense through him and surround him with good shooters and 1 quality secondary playmaker (Holliday could be that if he could be counted on for more than 40 games).
Evans and Holiday together take too many offensive possessions away from Davis. There is a reason that he is completely blowing up with both guards out. The problem is that the surrounding talent is not good enough for them to win without those 2.
They won't be title contenders with that roster though.
They either need to get lucky with the draft or get lucky in trades.
New Orleans won't attract top FAs, that makes it very tough to put together an elite roster.
As great as Davis can be, he's not a real facilitator. The offense can't run through him like it would a guard, but it needs to be built to maximize his touches WITHIN the framework of a guard centric team. Popovich is a master at it.
I agree that the roster is not contender worthy, but I completely disagree that the offense can't run through Davis. He commands double teams when he touches the ball, so they can and should run offense through him. Just because he isn't a guard does not mean he can't be a facilitator.
Pass it to Davis, draw multiple defenders and the defense is in scramble mode when the ball comes back out, creating easy scoring chances for teammates.
You should not build a guard centric team when you have a forward who is a top 5 overall player. That is precisely what NO has done and also why they are not very good.
My point is the offense can't be run BY Davis, just to make the point clearer.
Jabar had Magic, Russell had Cousey, Shaq had Kobe and Wade.
Designing an offense that can get the ball to Davis in the flow of the offense should be the goal.
As a basketball fan I just hope he gets to play in the right situation before his abilities erode.
Sure. I agree with that.
My issue with Evans and Holiday is that too often the ball does not find its way to DAvis.
I also think they are far from being a top team out West, but I just don't see how they could improve their odds by dealing Davis. If they haven't made any progress by the time he starts approaching free agency, then sure.
Right now, they have one of those extremely rare difference making talents. If I were running that team, I would be looking to make some moves and get better fitting pieces around him. Those guys are too hard to find to consider dealing none away before you have to.

The formula for a guy like Davis was most recently accomplished by Orlando. Drive and penetrate/dish PG with a stretch 4. He needs a really good PG and stretch 4. Anyway, fuck all that just trade to Lakers.
yeah this guy has the potential to redefine the 5. I do worry that the Pelicans cant build around him. If by 30 he is title less he will move . But thats a few years away.
