I too like his stuff. But he needs time in minors for control purposes it seems to me.

The thing (s) about Colby being in the # 5 spot is (1) he won't cost much, so we could let him go without wrecking the payroll, (2) He's actually pitched pretty well over the past month and if he can do this at the start of next season rather than Sept, he'll eat innings, (3) He's a bulldog and would be a good presence with our younger pitchers.

There is truth to much of that but letting Colby go may turn into a PR nightmare as he has no problem speaking his mind and it getting out to the media.

I mean that from a standpoint if he totally disappoints for the first month or so of the season and we release him with no hard feelings. He'd still have an opportunity to get picked up and we wouldn't be out a bunch of money.

Don't think I made my thought clear.

Bonilla needs A LOT of work on how to pitch with runners on base.

Know I'm a little old school. But TAG made some really good points just now on winter ball.

Yeh, Seattle has essentially ruined our chance at ruining Oakland's season.

I was looking forward to the Oakland series a week ago with the wild card standings being so tight. Oakland would've been desperate and the kids on our team could of received some " playoff intensity" level experience. Now? That series looks like it will be a snooze. The A's probably won't have anything to play for in the last 2 games.

I know most never showed up here tonight, and most of the few who did have bailed, justifiably so. But you missed Tom Grieve telling some absolutely hysterical stories about playing in winter ball I've ever heard.

I laughed out loud on several of em.

And I still want him to retire. Ha

I like how tough Odor seems mentally.

Odor and Rua just keep impressing me. Those 2 are going to save JD quite a bit of money. So will all the youngsters in the pen. I think there's still a lack of power that will need to be addressed, and the rest should be spent on SP.

Anybody interested in signing Victor Martinez?

How about a Cuban outfielder?

How about a Cuban outfielder?

I know, but 80-100M is a lot for an unknown. I've gone back and forth. Where does Rua get everyday AB's? Does Choo DH, with Rua, Martin, and Tomas in the OF? Maybe Fielder and Choo DH with Rua playing 1B and OF? That's one young, exciting OF though.

I also think Victor Martinez would fit in perfectly in the middle of the line-up with Beltre and Fielder. That's assuming him and Fielder get along. He's 35 though, but is having an MVP season.

All of this and no mention of Maddux...

The Astros are without a permanent manager at the moment, having dismissed Bo Porter after some philosophical disagreement with the club’s front office. Tom Lawless is filling in on an interim basis, and reports have indicated that former big league managers Manny Acta, A.J. Hinch and Don Wakamatsu could be candidates, as could Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo and Angels bench coach Dino Ebel, among many others.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Astros have spoken with five candidates via phone: Ebel, Hinch, Lovullo, Wakamatsu and Rays bench coach Dave Martinez. Martinez has previously stated that he would be very interested in the position after having a good experience when he interviewed the last time Houston was looking for a manager.

@gfraley: If scores hold, Rangers and Rox would each have 93 losses. Rangers could end up with 3rd worst record and 4th overall pick next June.
