It's cool. You guys don't know me. It's tough to ruffle my feathers. Life's too short to let yahoo's on the internet get you riled up. Besides, I'm normally a bit of a sarcastic ass.

We're good.

Sounds like you'll fit in just fine at the Hoop.

Welcome!!:suds:

You do realize that the defense gave up 18, 23, and 14 points the last 3 weeks of the season last year, don't you? Had they won 2 of those games, they would have made the playoffs.

Dont feed the trolls.

#FACT

The best part about this is those numbers are what they are- very win-able scores that can't be denied. Yards, opposing QBR, 1st downs, turnovers, yada, yada, yada (people love their garbage stats)... the bottom line is how many points a defense gives up, and ours closed the year strong. They're not the reason we're not in the playoffs. That has to do with crappy QB play, not having any decent WRs not named after an awesome transformer, and a head coach who was in over his head (and an OC who was as predictable as the sun).

Our defense wasn't great, but your post don't lie- they finished very well.

He's new, give him some slack.

It's taken me years to figure out to just ignore the attention whores... not as easy as it sounds sometimes...

No they didn't. One of the worst 4th quarter defenses in the NFL (28th) last year and (16th) over those last 3 games.

2013 Lions defense: ranked 28th best in allowing 4th quarter points. 16th over the last 3 weeks.

NFL Football Stats - NFL Team Opp 4th Quarter Points/Game on TeamRankings.com

Welcome. You'll fit right in with the rest of the misguided souls.

There is always context to stats...

In the Baltimore game, the offense was 4/13 (31%) on 3rd downs and Stafford threw 3 INTs.
In the Giants game, the offense was better on 3rd downs (47%), but Stafford threw 2 INTs, including a pick 6.
In the Vikings game, the offense was 5/15 (33%) on 3rd downs.

And on the flip side, the Lions defense ranked 1st in # of 3rd down conversions against them...7th in the last three games.

The defense did it's job the last 3 weeks of last season, giving up points in the teens each week.

I was just going to post about the league-leading 3rd down defense. I think we were also right up there in lowest redzone TD percentage, and overall redzone scoring. Not bad areas for the defense to be among the best at, imo. I'd rather be better at preventing a team from scoring than keeping their QB's numbers down...

To be fair, the defense did suck at giving up big plays.

Indeed. Our CBs left a lot to be desired last year. Mathis was the only one who played acceptably well.

I am thinking this response says the offense did not need to score 35 points to win a game. Simple truths I believe...

I may be wrong? Had the defense ranked dead last in every stat of those 3 games. The point was if my comprehension skills are working remains the same. The offense did not need to score 35 to win said games.

Bottom line is defense may not have played well, but they played well enough to win. And not just the last 3 games. Offense did not. They were putrid at times. So predictable defenses were getting to the spot of the pass before our WRs could finish their routes at times. Linehan was a dinosaur. Everyone had figured him out. At least Cunningham changed the defense and made something decent with a crap secondary.
