Wow. That game last night was unwatchable.

I know its usually more ticky tack in the preseason, but this year seems worse then normal. Goodell doing his damn thing, trying to eliminate all contact in football.

I didn't watch the game last night, but I did watch the Sea-Den game last week and that was no picnic. 25 accepted penalties?!?!???! I didn't think that game would ever end. One series had 5 consecutive flags thrown on 5 consecutive plays. Denver fans were even booing the call that went their way in the end.

It's more like a DUI checkpoint...a show of force to make one buckle up, get off the phone and drive sober. These calls will calm down after the preseason ( the networks need the commercial timefor prime time). But I will agree that the game sucked and I am trying my best not to post about that fuc...I mean the NFL commish Goodell.

This was the worst news that could a possibly came out by the NFL during the offseason.... THEY ALREADY CALL ENOUGH PI's and illegal contacts!!! Beyond frustrating Goodell and his cronies keep fucking with the game... they did this same crap in 2004 and it was a disaster for most of the season until they backed off on it... I"m seriously thinking Goodell is a fucking idiot.... He's trying to leave his mark on the NFL in way's that makes him look like a dumb dictator not a good sports commish....

I hope your right.... Because in 2004 they didn't calm down until way into the season when players and coaching staffs started saying it was bad for the game...

I didn't watch much of the game but I did catch a nice looking QB hit from a CB blitz that was immediately called Roughing the Passer. I shook my head and went to do something else. Just terrible

I tend to agree with this as well.

I've always thought the league is doing this because they want to curb the defenses from trying to gauge what they can get away with early in a game and want to nip that in the bud.

And the unfortunate truth is the NFL is in the business of making money and the majority of the NFL fanbase is causal and doesn't appreciate a good defensive matchup. Even dedicate fans have a tough time appreciating it because when their team isn't scoring the first thought is "what's wrong with the offense".

When they do enough to cater to the "casual fan" and stop giving a shit about fans that appreciate the game, they will have to change or sign their death certificate. Casual fans fill super bowls with corporate money. They don't fill stands on sundays. They say the money is in the tv contracts, well when casual fans of their casual team aren't doing well, they find other things to do. Casual fans don't carry them thru tough times. Casual fans don't bring up another generation of football fans. Casual fans happen by circumstance and convenience. They fill in the cracks, they don't support a franchise for the long haul.

Last year restored some of my faith in football. Prior, the penalties and PI garbage was making games unwatchable. It's already changed me. I watch my team play most of the time. Years ago, I watched every game I could. Today it's mostly because I feel a loyalty to "my" team.

If they keep continuing, I will go do something else with my kids. They won't grow up dreaming of going to an NFL game. We won't be playing football at half times and then back in glued to the tv for the next few hours. The NFL has to be careful. They're walking a pretty fine line in order to squeeze out a few more dollars.

I've always thought that what made Pete Rozelle a great commissioner was that, for the most part, you forgot he was there. A lesson Goodell has yet to learn.

Yeah all these penalties are going to get old really quickly - none of these games have had any flow at all

College basketball recovered. The NFL should recover. I wonder if this will change fantasy football because receivers and tes are going to blow up this year

Well said.... This illegal contact bullshit isn't a concussion issue, it's a we want more offense issue.... This is directly related to what happened to Manning in the Super Bowl... NO question about it... There golden 55 touchdown MVP got stifled and Goodell didn't like it one bit... Defense wins championships really bugs people that have no true football knowledge in there brain stems... Goodell is a fricking idiot and I've lost all respect for him ...

How so? These rules are not new but just being enforced to show the NFL is watching. How does this affect a season ticket holder?

the games are unwatchable and they have to pay full price to watch this shit. this whole the refs need to get their work in too is utter bs. if the nfl want refs to practice throwing flags, do simulations of some kind. the "emphasis" stuff erodes the value of the game. nfl preseason games are for the players to practice, not the refs. especially under the new cba that limits contact in camp.

Thats a great point. The fans are forced to pay full price to watch guys who will be bagging groceries in a months time, now their also forced to watch games with no flow because the game is stopped every play by flag.

If this ic doesnt get dialed back by the reg season were gonna see the game turn into the big 12 where games are 55-50

Smh

If the flags hold up like this there are 4 teams that can make the Superbowl: Pats, Broncos, Saints and the Lions...#Iwish but you get the point.
