so much for this issue "going away " and how the "ignore it and it will go away strategy is foolish "

now we have a ref who wouldnt referee redskins games because of the name

we have 2 announcers who wont use the name and one who thinks they should use it

and now ditka facing a suspension from espn because he supports the name

so i go back to my original point the team has to get their side out

i know a lot of people who call themselves "fans " arent . they are "observers " . there is nothing worse then an observer who thinks he is a fan

Troof. This is not going away.

Again I say, if it has to happen... Skins, throwback jerseys, spear logo. End of story. F the thought police.

Cali... IM just not feeling it.

The Washington Skins with a spear logo. Not too sure how that plays out.

And out side of the team name, every time we cave to one of these PC agendas, we lose a little more of what makes this country great. People have the right to do and say what ever they like within reason. The concept that its illegal to accidentally hurt some one feelings is absurd. IM not saying people dont have a right to be upset by the team name. But those same people really shouldnt have a right to force the team by any means to change the name because they dont like it.

and now ditka facing a suspension from espn because he supports the name

Mike Ditka wants anti-Redskins liberals to get off his lawn | ProFootballTalk

Check out this article on the subject & take a look at the comments below it. By far the majority of the posters support the name. This is consistent with everything we have seen from the general public, polls for Native Americans, other forums, etc. Yet somehow we are all supposed to believe that the term is wrong simply because some high profile folks don't like it & have to open up their big mouths on the subject on a regular basis.

It as if sources like ESPN should be considered gospel on the subject & if we have an opposing pt of view then we are simply deemed as racists. Why anyone would trust dimwits like Phil Simms & Mike Greenberg on this type of subject is beyond me.

Whatever.................................

I like it, I call them skins most of the time anyways. And I'm only talking if we HAVE to...legislation and shit.

I DO not agree with any of this PC bull shit.

Cali... thats the thing though, its little concessions like this that lead to bigger implications down the road.

Who's disagreeing, but if you get legislated against, ya gotta fold a little while you keep up the fight. :noidea:

You mean like this (from the article I referenced above):

Ditka briefly considered running against Barack Obama in the 2004 U.S. Senate race in Illinois, and he has said declining to do that is his greatest regret in life, because he believes he could have prevented Obama from becoming president.

Actually lets say the trade mark thing holds up. Personally i would simply stop using the logos in question. Or design it in such a way that if it doesnt have an official NEW logo, its not team original. I say keep the name, drop the Chiefs head logo, go with the R and the Spear.

Got no problem with that approach either.

Its gone too far for Dan to not have to give up something on this. Truth is its just going to come down to WHAT he has to give up at this point.

I'm not so sure, at least for the foreseeable future. The League clearly isn't addressing it, the sponsors are all staying, and public opinion is well behind snyder. I say he weathers the storm until one of those 3 has a major change of heart.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Dont get me wrong, I dont think it will be tomorrow or next week. But eventually Dan is going to have to concede something on this measure. And god help us if Hillary Clinton is the next President. She will it a mission to appease the PC crowd as she often does.

As for the Ref who quietly refused to do Redskins games, he is a coward. He says he had a conviction about the name. But he wasnt so outraged as to not take money from the team since all 32 teams chip into the ref payfund.

Usually, but sometimes the squeak just gets ignored if its not large enough. I see this as dying down now that real football is here. It will raise its head occasionally, but there just isn't enough meat behind it to do any damage at this point. Snyder isn't used to being pushed around and unless there is a compelling reason, he isn't just going to give up on this because of a few PC loudmouths.

As for the ref, I'll give him props that he didn't try and make this a public issue. You are probably right about the money angle. At least he isn't like Phil Simms who will still do the games, take the money and just not mention the name. No that is hypocritical. He had no issues using the name last year.......you got to just love the jerks that all the sudden found religion when its in vogue to do so.

it wont die down and be in our favor without getting our side out .

now if anyone wants a compromise i can see us dropping the name red , and just go by skins

i could live with that because the history doesnt die with it

i dont think we should have to , but i could compromise a bit . but will the other side do so ?

as for the logo i would change it because i like the spear . the "R" is cool too

That "R" logo is awesome. I still remember one of Sean Taylor's last games (against Giants I believe) where they had that helmet along with the related looking uniforms. Best throwback ever.

Who are we getting our side out and what are we going to say that hasn't already been said? Those that are against the name aren't changing. And we already have the vast majority on our side so I guess I don't know who we are trying to sell to?

This has died down. 2months ago, it was the topic of the day and the lead story everywhere. Today, it's a side note. That's the way it will continue, with an occasional protest or outburst from the opposition. Now, it will come back. But I still maintain that it is a vocal minority and they just don't have the numbers or clout to affect change at this point. Until either the league, the sponsors or public majority changes their stance, the name isn't changing.

BTW, I liked that helmet also.

If we didn't live in the 24x7 news & sports era I am guessing that you would barely even hear about this issue ever. As it us - these outlets have hours to fill & need content for their web-sites (look at some of the completely useless crap you see everyday on CNN & ESPN). Therefore - they need to stir up controversy
wherever possible. Marginal media types & abused politicians seize the opportunity to bolster their careers.

Again - I challenge most folks to show me people in the real world who take exception to the name or even care about this issue. I have not found even one (in numerous types of environments) so I find it hard to believe that there is huge public pressure to change this name.

to people who are undecided or have been misled by the media coverage of espn etc .

take the point of the dictionary being changed in 1983 coincidentally when the skins were going to superbowls

that the smithsonian tells how the word came about and who came up with it

or the people that say that american indians are offended when in fact most are not

people who arent up on the news will only get the vocal minority side and not get the complete facts . that is why our voice needs to be out there

sometimes you have to quit letting the other guy control the situation and grab a set of balls and stand up and snuff that crap out and taking the high road becomes a cover for cowardice

good men cant stand by and do nothing and let evil go unchecked (radical here but you get the picture )

and vocal minorities can change things hitler was a vocal minority as was mussolini lenin , stalin moa etc

snyder owns a team that is the 3 most valuable football franchise and the 9th most valuable team in the world . he paid for the name , history and everything associated with that . he has every right to defend it
:suds:

and by the way it isnt a side note . cbs espn , a ref , bleacher report oberman king simms cowherd king all have commented on this in the last week

so much for dying down
