I swear I've been saying it since last offseason. You can't assume people can take time off whether its for microfracture, tommy john, a damn splinter, and think they'll be back. Baseball isn't like soccer or football. Its entirely based on mechanics that require countless repetition. You cant assume MP will be back too then. Fine. Whatever. But its an art, and you HAVE TO PREPARE for the worst as a gm, which is what I said. If he comes back dealing, great. Good to have you back. But you have to assume he wont otherwise you have this shit show we see on a regular basis right now. You guys all thought colby and matt would be back, and it was just me and justin over the offseason saying "NO PLEASE GET PITCHING YOU CANT ASSUME THEYLL BE BACK PLEASE FOR FUCKS SAKE GET PITChING I PROMISE ITS GONNA BE WORTH IT" and it ended up being worth it. Then everyone was like "dang, i wish we wouldve got pitching this offseason" and we were like YA WEVE BEEN SAYING THAT SINCE NAM.

So yes. You always prepare for the worst in the front office otherwise you will get fucked and have the worst record in the mlb. oh wait.

And I'm telling you, you don't really understand what is entailed in his injury or surgery. As for your soccer comment, an injury like Hollands would require a soccer player a long time to find his form again most likely.

They have very strict mechanics that entail every aspect of their lives as well as routine. If you ASSUME derek is gonna be back chuckin mid 90's with a dirty slider/changeup you are shooting us in the foot. YOU HAVE TO ASSUME HE WONT BE. THATS JUST THE WAY IT IS.

my comment about waiting it out for MP to come back was wrong and contradicting so I retract it. But I just think MP has so much talent and he's still so young.

Derek won't have the same stuff he had. If he can still pitch effectively, then great. But I mean, why would you just assume that ya know? Why would you not trade EA for a couple pitchers just to play it safe? We're trying to win next year, we arent trying to simply have a chance at competing
