The only way we compete next year is if we get 2 pitchers. Not one. Has to be 2. You have to assume derek won't be back. If he's back and dealing, awesome... but as a gm you have to simply assume he wont be back. Preferably you get young guys, but anything i guess. You need to have at least 3 reliable pitchers to hold the fort until MP.

Why on God's green earth would you assume Derek won't be back? It was micro fracture surgery on his knee. That's not going to keep him from coming back next year by any stretch. The guy you don't count on for next year is Perez. You've got it backwards.

You have to assume that. You can't assume he'll be back. We assumed colby and matt would be back this year and theyve shit the bed. Different injuries sure, but its not the injuries that will kill him, its the time off. Especially considering the thing that generates derek's "stuff" is his lower half. I think its fairly reasonable to assume that when he comes back he won't be throwing as hard or have as much bite as usual.

All pitching injuries don't fit into the same category. This isn't a shoulder, elbow, or back thing. This is pretty straight forward. Hell, I'd expect Holland to make a few appearances at the end of this season.

You guys understand that its not all the arm that makes a pitcher throw hard right? haha as much as people like to say that. Sure, the flexibility in one's arm can make a guy throw hard, but the force and the torque he generates with his lower half (hips and knees) are what creates the velocity.

Yeah, I expect him in September and to see what he has.

I don't think you really understand what is entailed in his injury or his procedure. There's nothing about it that should affect him long term.

No, but he's missed 7 months and counting with it. So, as straight forward as it seems, its still significant. I would put money his stuff isn't what it was last year when he comes back. The lower half is extremely important. Just as important as a pitchers back. My friends professional career ended cuz he had a knee surgery and couldnt recover.

We've got to assume Holland won't be back, yet you say we have to wait for Perez to get back.

Sorry....but the Holland's injury is much less likely to have long term negative effects that Perez IMO.

Again, all knee surgeries are not the same. You don't really have an understanding of his injury or the procedure he had, clearly. Is he going to be the same old holland right when he comes back? I doubt it. But there's no reason to think he won't return to form by next spring.

Exactly, people say "knee surgery" like they're all the same. Huge differences between what Holland had versus an ACL reconstruction, versus a meniscus repair versus a knee replacement.

They're in the process of closing the roof in Toronto. I thought if you started a game with the roof open, it has to stay this way for the duration of the game.

Obviously I'm wrong. But did any of y'all think this?

Nope. That's the NFL rule.
