So it looks like you guys like either Clowney or Bortles for the #1 overall pick. What about Mack?

If the Texans don't take a QB at #1, who do they select next? I highly doubt they can going to see Fitzpatrick as a viable starter.

In the top 10, we have the Jaguars, Browns, Raiders, Vikings, and Bucs in the QB market. After that you have the Cardinals and Browns again at the bottom of the first round. We could even potentially see the Patriots and Broncos go for a QB in the first round as well.

If the Texans wait until pick 33, to take a QB, then the big four will probably be off the board.

I think people are over thinking this...yes, Clowney may be the top overall prospect in this draft class...but, he's got some issues that you must take into account if you're going to draft him.

HOU has arguably the best DE in the game, but they need a QB...names aside, if there's a QB that has a 1st round grade and he's projected to go top 10, you take the QB in this draft because as you've pointed out, there are some many teams that need the position.

Exactly. If I were the Texans, my first pick would be Bortles. I think he has the highest ceiling, due to his size, passing and running skills, and the "it factor." I say he has the "it factor," because there's no character issues and he seems to have the clutch gene.

People could look at the Texans dilemma like Williams vs. Young, or like Curry vs. Stafford.

I would as well and I really like Clowney, but an all world DE, and a rookie DE with great potential are not going to win many playoff games without a decent trigger man.

I think the real rub is that the value with Clowney is as a 4-3 DE and not a 3-4 OLB. Clowney isn't a need for the Texans or a scheme fit.

I don't think there is a QB in this years draft, all bad.

It's far easier to predict failure vs success at the QB spot in the NFL, but you don't know it to be true. Doesn't make them bad imo, I'm more inline with this crop needing some time to develop vs being thrown into the fire that Luck & RG3 were subjected to.

The poster doesn't provide any evidence to support his claims about the QB class being bad. According to all the news reports and the media big boards, we have 4 quarterbacks seen as 1st round talent. This tells me that the experts (ones who watch all their games, do the interviews) think they have franchise QB abilities.

What I also find quite odd is this notion that a quarterback needs to play like a 10 year professional in his first season in order to be drafted high. I find it rather silly. You draft a QB in order to produce long-term results. Eli Manning for example was terrible in his first couple of seasons, and now he's a two-time Super Bowl MVP. Drew Brees played awful for his first two seasons, now he's seen as one of the best. Ditto for Terry Bradshaw.

Remember when Big Ben and Joe Flacco came out of college? Both those guys were seen as "project QBs" and should be sitting because they are not ready. What happened instead? Big Ben won rookie of the year and produced the highest passer rating for a rookie QB at the time. Flacco helped the Ravens reach the AFC Championship game.

They should take Clowney just so the Falcons won't get him.

If the falcons get him, we will need to go all out on the OL. That is all I'm going to say. Atlanta wants to be the last team the saints have to beat in the postseason to get to a sb.

Their schedule is tough next year, Clowney won't be able to save Ryan from the hits he will take against Cincinatti and Baltimore. Oh and Arizona and the giants.

Johnny Manziel proves the NFL media is dumb and will fall for the slightest BS. A qb who hasnt even played three years in CFB, hasnt gained more weight, and is a Justin Bieber wannabe is able to make the media overlook that just because of college stats? We are in sad times in the NFL as far as character is concerned.

I think all of you are missing the major deciding factor here.

Bortles sounds like a Pokemon name, and thus he should not be drafted. Don't ask me how I know that it's a Pokemon'esque name, I just do.

The obvious #1 overall pick is Michael Sam.

I think the move for Houston is a trade down with Atlanta for their #1, #2 and next years #2. Houston could then nab the BPA with Atlanta's pick, a QB and their next biggest need with their two 2nds

why would the Falcons do this?

I'm just going off what's been out there for a month. If the Texans went QB at #1, the Falcons supposedly are interested in trading up to #2 for Clowney.

oh.

I don't see the Texans going QB #1 myself.

Me either. So they could take Clowney at one and say Mettenberger in the 2nd. Or, if the pull the trade with Atlanta, and picked up a 2nd, they would still be able to take Mack, Barr, Matthews, Robinson or Watkins with the Falcons 1st, get Mettenberger in the 2nd and also add another top prospect in the 2nd. Put it in Cowboys terms, would you rather have Clowney for the Cowboys or, say, Greg Robinson and Timmy Jernigan? That would be worth kicking around to me.
