The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will announce a contract extension for coach Pete Carroll on Friday, league sources confirmed Thursday night.
The team announced a news conference for 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday. No reason for the news conference was given.
Carroll was entering the final year of an original five-year, $35 million deal he signed to leave USC and become coach of the Seahawks in 2010. He led the franchise to its first Super Bowl championship in February.
Carroll said several times during the 2013 season that he was fine and had no concerns about his contract situation with the Seahawks.
There was speculation that Friday's news conference could be to announce a contract extension for free safety Earl Thomas. Those rumors were fueled by a Thursday night tweet from Thomas that said "GOD you're so good!!"
The Seahawks still hope to work out extensions for Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman. Both players are set to become free agents after the 2014 season.
News of Carroll's extension was earlier reported by the NFL Network.

Good job. Sure he's getting a nice, hefty raise.

You Seattle guys are getting ahead of yourselves a little. In history? You sure you aren't Russell Wilson?

This extension will afford him a few more sticks of his favorite gum. Good for him.

I am not an expert in this stuff, but I think there have been only 2 other HC's to win a Superb Owl and a National Championship at the college level.
He built both programs from scratch.
Feel completely free to disagree.
He is in the perfect place to succeed.

Pump the breaks.... History? Really? I agree with everything you said up to "in history". Great coaches of today is more appropriate. Let him get a little more NFL history under his belt before you start making those claims.

From what his wife has stated an extension was needed. She had hoped for 5 but will settle for just 3. Oh wait....contract extension...got it.

I personally dont really count Switzer. Pretty much stepped into a good situation with the Cowboys and didnt really have much to do with that Super Bowl in my opinion. In my opinion Johnson and Carroll stand alone in that class.

I agree. Switzer was a coat-tailer.

One fault that many make is to lump all fans into the same pot when only one makes a controversial statement.
RD, if that is your only fault you are beating the averages :yahoo:

John Fox is a good coach. There are many good coaches. There is a reason many (including Elway) are trying to copy cat Pete's plan.

Well, he is making his own history as we speak. The last guy to have accomplished winning a National Championship and a Super Bowl was 1995, 19 years ago.
That is a little history for you.

There is a lot to be said about that, but look at Barry's success in the college ranks and it is impressive.
