personally i hate the idea. hated it for other sports too but in today's greed it is what it is. but rules have to be in place to prevent sub .500 teams from getting in and probably need to lose the automatic home game for all division winners too.

Didn't vote. I can take it or leave it. The best team in January wins. That's always the way it's been in the NFL. If that's a #1 seed, like this year, or a #6 or #7, so be it.

could you imagine if they put in rule like the cfl. and swapped out a bad team in one conference for a better team in the other conference. now that would make it entetaining....

It's about money and nothing more. 2 more playoff games, fans spending more money on team apparel and playoff T-shirts and so on.

from rumors i heard. top two still get a bye but that is it.

I just heard that the 2 seed will have to play in the wild card round. Only the 1 seed gets a bye.

Edit: Didn't see your above post.

The NFL has perfection right now, in terms of scheduling, organization, and playoffs. Leave it alone.

Agreed. Don't over-saturate the product or becomes less interesting.

Yeah going to have to vote No on this idea. The playoffs are great as is. I mean they just had the top viewing show of all time in the Super Bowl and it wasn't even that great of a game. You start trying to tweak it too much and you are going to start losing the average fan.

I could understand it if the regular season had less tv viewers or in game attendance for teams out of contention... but that is not the case, and generally speaking the team does not clinch the 6th spot until the last week anyway, so i dont see how this will affect the regular season... It is not like baseball where the spots are often clinched early, and fans just stop going to games...

Keep in mind that there is no way they would keep it at 7 teams per conference. This would just be a stop on the way to 16 teams making the playoffs.

The only thing I would change would be to reduce 4 preseason games down to 2. They are a rip off for STH's who have to pay 100% face value for practice games.
Would I trade 2 PS games for the proposed playoff ladder? Yes.

This does reduce the possibility of a team with a better record than a division winner missing out on the playoffs. A better way to do that would be to reduce the number of divisions, but I guess that ship has sailed. They're not going to make a .500 record a qualifier and just say "whoops well I guess we just won't have that extra playoff game this year" if the 3rd WC team doesn't have one. The chance of a division winner being below .500 is greater than that of one of the 3 WCs being below .500 anyway.

The NFL won't do that though considering they are wanting to add as many games as they can to the schedule. Only way they cut back on the Preseason is if teams agree to an 18-game season. Two extra playoff games involving 4 teams is not something they will want to do at the cost of 32 preseason games.

Yeah that's not going to happen. My sympathies to the STHs, but when I, or rather my dad, had them there were 6(3 home) of them and only 14(7 home) regular season games.
