In the second half vs Northwestern, Wisconsin wasn't able to score a field goal between 15:01 to play until 2:47 remaining. Wisconsin hit only seven free throws during that 12-minute span while Northwestern reeled off 27 points.

ESPN:
this was the first time the Nittany Lions and Wildcats won road games on the same day since Penn State joined the conference in 1993.

Penn State beat No. 24 Ohio State 71-70 in overtime last night

I might be the only one here that remembers a winless (in conference play) desperate Penn State team, take down a championship caliber, Michigan team last season. The same Michigan team that disposed of Florida, with ease, in the Elite 8. I wouldn't be surprised if Penn State had a .600-.750 record in the SEC.

Without Deshaun Thomas, the Bucknuts have proven to struggle tremendously in the B1G. The writing was on the wall.

All this talk from Florida fans about the "Big Ten's woes" is hilarious. The SEC's best team wasn't defeated by the B1G's 4th or 5th best team?
:L

No one was dogging Big10 basketball, which we all thought was the best conference at the beginning of the year. If you checked out my avatar, you will see I'm a Penn State fan and also was born and raised just off campus of Penn State, so when I state Penn State does not now or ever has known a damn thing about basketball, I know what I'm talking about. Great at football and wrestling, but basketball has never been much in State College....and no Penn State would not be a .500 team in the SEC....sorry. Also, you forgot to mention that Wisconsin did in fact beat Florida earlier this year.

To be fair, when we beat Florida earlier in the year, they were short some people because of injuries and suspensions. If they had all of their pieces I'm not completely convinced that we beat them.

Yep, smart but slow. Does not fit well in the tourney.

Wisky has one more Sweet 16 appearance (6) and one less Final Four appearance (1) than OSU since 2000. So it can and does work, to a degree. Wisconsin ball can really disrupt a game and up until league play they were dropping a shitload of points on most teams.

Northwestern plays that same slow trademark pace but Wisky just couldn't score in the 2nd half. Wisky beat Northwestern by 27 in Evanston...

Northwestern is 339th in points per game (61.6) and 332nd in field goal percentage (.397), yet they currently sit at 4-5 in Big Ten play, #6 in the conference behind 4-4 Wisconsin and 4-4 Minnesota (Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa are #1, #2, #3)

ChicagoNow.com:

Be Careful Big 10, Chris Collins has Northwestern Basketball Rolling

"Now that was a statement win! Who would have thought just a few weeks ago, the Northwestern Men’s basketball team could go up to the Kohl Center and beat a highly regarded Wisconsin team. On Wednesday night, the Cats did just that"

Northwestern is "a legitimate Big 10 threat."

"Many people will look at the Illinois game as the turning point this season. While that was a huge win...To win on the road at Indiana and Wisconsin is as impressive as it gets. And the best news is, Collins has a dynamite recruiting class coming in next year. The Cats have already signed a 4 star prospect, something Carmody was never able to accomplish. ... Don’t be surprised to see this team competing for a Big 10 Championship in 3-4 years down the road. ... Look out Fitz, you might soon be the second most popular coach on campus."

Quick sell your season tickets! This team has completely forgotten how to play team defense and shoot the basketball. Not a good combination. Not looking forward to see how pathetic this Wisconsin OSU game is on saturday.

I'm not sure this year's team ever learned how to play defense. I'm concerned this team just hit the off switch. Sam Dekker should be jumping at taking a leadership role, but this team doesn't really have an on floor leader.

Since you know all about Penn State basketball, you know they have a decent coach in Chambers (that would be their 3rd year HC). Keeping Trey Burke (decommited) would have been huge for their program. Chambers is fighting an uphill battle in recruiting but I see no reason why PSU wouldn't be an above average team in the SEC. They'd make more noise there than they do in the B1G.

You completely missed my reference. (Florida) is the best in the SEC and they lost to the 4th or 5th best team in the B1G (Wisconsin).

The B1G may still be the best conference right now. The ACC has a strong case too. And the PAC and B12 are no slouches. We won't have a "definitive" answer until March-April.

The Badgers finished with more made free throws (21) than field goals (15).

This is 100% horseshit.. Florida didn't have their key players, at Wisky, and still made a game of it. Imagine is Michigan was missing 3 key players like Burke, Robinson, and Hardaway last year... and they lose, how much credibility would you put in that loss?

You obviously didn't watch the game... else you would have know the Gators were WAY short handed that night on the road.

We play Wisky with our full squad, it wouldn't be close.... especially now that Chris Walker is cleared to play and will join the team against Mizz next week.

Wisconsin newspaper:

A lot of teams have walked out of the Kohl Center battered and beaten courtesy of the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team over the years, but nobody has been a bigger punching bag than Northwestern.

Northwestern was 0-13 at the Kohl Center with an average margin of defeat of 18.2 points,

Northwestern went 0-2 at the Kohl Center under Kevin O’Neill and 0-11 under Bill Carmody, but the Wildcats made a winner out of first-year coach Chris Collins in his first time in the building as a head coach.

The Wildcats, a 17-point underdog, handed the No. 14 Badgers a shocking 65-56 defeat, leaving the Badgers dazed, confused and, eventually, knocked out.

Para 1...doubt it.

Para 2...as mentioned by an honest Wisconsin fan who probably watched the game, Florida was missing 3 starters. Take 3 starters from any team and they lose to a good team. At that time Wisconsin was a very good team. Billy Donovan is a very good coach and he knew it was better to make a statement to his own team rather than beat Wisconsin early in the year. You mentioned the ACC; Virginia is a good team, yet they lost to Tennessee by 30. Doesn't mean a thing, those early games. IMO, most folks believe that Florida is a better team than Wisconsin at the moment so your statement that 4th best in the big 10 is better than NR 1 SEC is just plain stupid.

Para 3....Not sure if we know which is the best conference. We thought that the B ig10 was at the beginning of the year, however with Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin losing; things are not looking so good. Michigan State gets a pass due to 2 guys out for injuries. See, I give credit for 2 starters not in the game, however you failed to acknowledge Florida's loss of 3 starters for the Wisconsin game.

Did a much better job that I being somewhat PC in your response.:suds:

And the sad part is they didn't blow us out... it was a close game. We had our team manager / walk on in the game pretty much the entire time. I don't think he has seen the court often other than the last 2 mins blowouts since that time....

???? Michigan State has lost 2 times and just beat a top 15 team on the road without 2 of their best players. If you want to bang on OSU and Wisky then go for it but MSU doesnt deserve to be lumped in with them.
