Just watched his presser. Pretty impressed. Very personable, but you can tell if you crossed him, hell would be paid. Not afraid to answer direct questions, even if the answer is pound sand.

I have no idea. I'm not going to pass judgment after one presser. Or one practice. Or one game.

I will say this, I'm cautiously impressed with what I saw from the guy (Gruden) today. It also seems that this was all Bruce Allen. So, if that is what you are referring to, then it appears Snyder did what an owner was supposed to do. Let his people do their job, wait for their recommendation, approve it, deny it, or ask for more info, and write the check.

Jim Zorn sounded.... hell I could'nt even type that with a straight face.

But as far as did Snyder screw this up. We wont know that for 2-4 years in all likely hood. But as for now, Im cautiously optimistic. Lets see what he does with the team before we judge it as a master stroke of genius, or a master stroke job.

look what i am asking is does this look like a snyder meddle job with allen as the lap dog puppet or does it look like he let his guys do the job ?

that is what i mean because i had some of you guys on suicide watch because snyder was doomed to meddle in this hiring and there was no hope that we could get a decent shot at a decent HC candidate

Again, I have no idea. What was a.j. Smiths role in all this? Cooley just reported that he's been roaming the halls at redskins park so he's doing something. We don't know what happened. Even if dan did act like he should in this hiring doesn't mean he is now the poster child for good owner behavior.

Thought you were going to let this go?

I guess the one thing that is bothering me is that it appears alot of nepotism is going on. I like the hire and I like what I have heard so far. That being said, this is an excellent chance for us to have a new start on defense. Haslett needs to be shown the door. Morris would be ok I suppose. I know people are pumped about McVay, but I would rather bring in someone who has more experience.

Bottom line, this organization needs as much change as possible. Shanahan helped the roster but hurt the organization with his control. I would like us to beef up the scounting department and give more resposiblity to Brown and Campbell. Allen needs to start clearing cap room ASAP. We have to hit the ground running for free agency.

So you want to fire Haslett and Promote Morris. You do realize his defenses sucked in Tampa right?? I think people are still looking for some one to blame beyond Shanahan. Scorched earth all new coaching staff teams usually suck... badly. But gie me a name that has a better than even chance of improving the defense and Im on board. Every one says fire him, no one has come up with a realistic available replacement.

Well lets look at this through the broad lens for a second.

Jon Gruden, Dungy, and Cowher all went on record as saying they were not coming out of retirement.

Jay Gruden was basically the hottest coaching name on the market. We gave him a contract a year longer than any one else on the market generally gives a rookie coach. And mind you we dont even know the numbers yet. So we basically did what Dan always does.

As far as did we get a good head coach. Thats a question you cant really answer for the next 2-4 years. Is he just a figure head to allow dan to play Madden?? Again you cant answer that on Day one. But we will have some sort of idea by the time the draft comes around.

the question is did snyder meddle or did he let allen do his job ? i think we got a decent candidate . that is all i can say about that

what i want to know is up until this point did snyder let allen make the call in your opinion or did snyder dictate it ?

I really think this was a plan Allen sold to Snyder.

When Zorn was still coach, Dan and Vinny flew out to talk to Shanahan several times. After Zorn was fired he also fired Vinny and hired Allen. My guess is Dan sold Bruce on Shanahan.

I think for the past two years Bruce's connections started filtering into the organization. This is just a guess but I think the first two years under Mike went poorly and Bruce started selling Dan on people he knew. Ex-Tampa players, Raheeh Morris, McVay etc. It's just a guess but I think Bruce knew they wanted Gruden. There is a reason he retained guys that he worked for in the past, like Haslett and Morris.

I don't see any of that as bad. I don't know if it is good but if I was in his position I would hire people I knew and trusted. Only time will tell but I am okay with the decisions made. Did we really want another retread coach. I am glad we have a younger hungry guy. I like the idea of McVay as OC. He won't be 28 for a few more days.

All we can do is wait and see what happens. Most in DC don't trust Dan to make good decisions. This is different. I feel like Allen has sold this plan to Dan. I think Dan is trying to do the right things. Lets hope this is the winning formula we have been waiting for.

Essentially what was done here are two things:

1. There was a transfer from my way Mike to my way Bruce..... Small ball vs. Tampa Bay North

2. The team hired the name associated with the old gang because they could not get the original.

As is the case, timing often translates into success, and Allen is betting that what once failed in Tampa will with the more relaxed rules for offense, now flourish. As stated by others...time will tell.

stymie , arent Jay and Jon 2 different people ? why go with some story about how they really wanted jon but settled for jay ?

a lot of teams were interested in jay for 2 years so i believe that jay got the job on his merits

as for tampa are you saying that allen and his corp group of guys cant learn from the past and apply the lessons learned ?

i am not saying they wont fail but cant we just let it play out some

They are two different people but from the same family of coaches not to exclude being blood relatives. Their styles are extremely similar as is their methodology. The fact that Allen is in fact putting together the ole' gang from Tampa cannot be dismissed. That said, it's not a great leap to imagine Allen wanting Jon who he could not get and then Jay who he could. I'm not saying that Jay did not merit this, just that the coincidence makes one go Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

As for your last two points, my closing on the previous posting covers that.
