Problem with that line of thinking is, if they brought in a rookie and flopped, the coach and GM are likely fired. Keeping cutler means they are not looking for a QB to start next year so they can concentrate on putting talent around Cutler.

I see the advantage in that. My only rebuttal...to be technical would be from a financial standpoint. Let's say the rookie goes 5-11, 8-8, there's a CHANCE he(with the talent, and added FA) gets to the NFC championship, but loses by year 3.

I think the 3rd year into Cutler's deal, you can't add too many FA's and will be dealing with an injury prone guy that will possibly get as far as the rookie could.

Actually if you look at the Bears cap situation, they are in good shape even with this deal. remember, John Mara didnt punish the Bears for what he deemed salary cap violations in the uncapped year. Before this deal the Bears had almost $50 million in cap space for 2014, and a projected $62 million in 2015. Now those numbers will drop... but unlike the Cowboys or Ravens, they are no where near cap strapped even after giving Cutler that deal.

Back on the topic of Qb contracts... And mind you this will be bookmarked and posted some where.... With Cutler getting $18 million per year, can any one see us NOT paying a Kings ransom to resign Griffin?? Im thinking atleast what cutler got if he plays average over the next season. If he plays as many of you expect, that deal could tip out at around $21 million a year averaged out considering he will only be $25 or so when his rookie deal is done.

Great. We can only hope that RG3 is worthy of a very big contract since it will most likely indicate that he is back on track & being a major force in leading this offense. Beyond that it is all good to me. Every team needs to face the fact that the QB position will eat up a major portion of the cap assuming that you have a decent QB. Also - the larger figures for the most part just mean that that QB was the most recent one signed - not that he is the best QB.

If he plays to the production that we all hope and expect when we drafted him, he will set a record for contract value in 3 years. If it turns out that he can never make the transition to pocket passer effectively, he won't be on our team in 3 years. We hopefully will have convinced some desperate team to trade for him and recoup what ever we can in draft picks. The challenge will be if he becomes an adequate, but inconsistent, QB. Kinda like a Vick. Some games he is a terror, some games he is a goat. That will be the tough decision......what to do with him.

If Bob is some where in the Flacco, Cutler range as far as ability I can see him getting that type of deal. If he is still struggling in the pocket more like Vick, then yes this could get dicey.

The kid from UCLA, Hundley is also a probable 1st rounder if he declares. He looked legit beating VTs ass the other day. I was impressed. Wouldn't surprise me too see 4-5 in the first 40-50 picks.

Socal... I know you guys are protective of RG3. But not everything is a slam on him. But the fact is, the QB market has been set, and guys are getting ridiculous contracts. Its NEVER good to need to sink that kind of money into a player. But its an eventuality. So as i said, the only good thing about having to sink that kind of money into the position is the fact that we likely wont be doing it for a guy who is in his 30s already. I would prefer we NOT have to lock up 20% of our cap into ANY single player. But if we have to do it, better its for a guy who likely can actually play out the contract. And while I agree he might not be the monster some make him out to be, he isnt an innocent little victim here either.

I also agree with your sentiments that if he does pan out we will be paying a young QB a lot of money for a long period, which is better than paying a 33 year old QB a lot of money for a long period.

BTW - my "monster" comment was an exaggeration. I was simply trying to state that RG3 is not as bad a guy as is portrayed by some of the media. Like most people - he has good & bad points. He plays for the Redskins so I will wish for nothing but the best for him as long as he wears that uniform. HTTR

you do socal as do i but others dont . as long as he wears our uniform then i want him to do well . it hurts us if he doesnt . some just want to be right or cant separate a trade they didnt like from the guy .
