If Griffin returns to year one form he will command that kind of money.

Dean, I ask again....who you gonna sign that is cheaper and better?

Does it matter? It is better to let him walk and work on replacing the position than lock yourself into paying a below average QB elite money for several years.

That is different b/c he is younger. Age has a lot to do with the contract.

exactly jdm. you don't lock yourself into paying a below average QB elite money. Cutler is not an elite Qb but he got elite QB money.

As a fan of the Skins and NOT the Bears.....I could care less.......I see it as a posative for us.....they cant afford more better players...they arent the first to overpay their QB and wont be the last.....baltimore did last year.....and THANKFULLY ROMO IS OVERPAID and hasnt won shit...He is a the poster boy for .500 Football, but I will never bitch and moan about his contract, unless ....Well...they should give ROMO MORE!!!!!! Screw that cap even worse...PLEASE!!!!

1st off cutler isnt below avg . 2nd off it should be easy to tell me a qb who is better and cheaper then cutler if he was "below avg "

3rd off who knows how much that contract is really worth . does it have voidable years in it ? is it front loaded or back loaded? neither you nor i at this point knows the specifics and again i have seen no link just yet on the money

Schfner from espn said it averages 18.5 mil a season. Maybe below avg qb was harsh but he is an avg qb who got paid elite money.

No one's on the market really this year, but yes, cutler is below average. He's football retarded and that's not fixable and cancels out his solid physical tools.

What we know right know is that the first three years average 18mil a year and that it is a 7 year deal.

find one who is better for cheaper

and this draft class isnt all that either

I think what Dean is trying to say is go with McCown now and draft A. McCarron or something along those lines. I will say this, I would NEVER sign Cutler to that kind of contract nor do I want his pompous attitude around my team. I'm glad he will be someone else's problem for the next few year. $50M guaranteed and I can also guarantee he doesn't come close to playing out the contract.

cutler made 14.2 mil last year he got a 3.8 mil raise a year depending on how the contract was written ..

personally having cutler off the market means a possible better trade for KC

I think its a deep qb class this year. 9 qbs could be drafted in the first 3 rounds. 4 of those Qbs have 1st round grades on them. If you don't get offered a 2nd for Cousins we should keep him.

Bortels and Carr have 1st round grades on them. That is four. Smith, Fales, Mettenburger, McCarren, Murray, and Boyd. Garroppolo could sneak in. maybe 10 in the first 4 rounds.

The kid from UCLA, Hundley is also a probable 1st rounder if he declares. He looked legit beating VTs ass the other day. I was impressed. Wouldn't surprise me too see 4-5 in the first 40-50 picks.

Back on the topic of Qb contracts... And mind you this will be bookmarked and posted some where.... With Cutler getting $18 million per year, can any one see us NOT paying a Kings ransom to resign Griffin?? Im thinking atleast what cutler got if he plays average over the next season. If he plays as many of you expect, that deal could tip out at around $21 million a year averaged out considering he will only be $25 or so when his rookie deal is done.

Oh yeah. I definitely see that number....on the low end. This assumes that Griffin comes back to lol more like Year 1 RG3, and not Year 2 RG. I agree that # that Cutler is getting is ridiculous for someone not a Top 5 QB... But what else are the bears gonna do? It's the nature of the business and salaries will continue to climb as long as the NFL remains the bar none sports brand in probably the world.

I personally think Chicago could have went a different route as well. Not that Cutler isn't above average at times but I don't think he'll ever lead an organization to a super bowl. Look at the immense talent on Chi-town's roster! The North flopped this year and Cutler couldn't come through or stay healthy. The coach could've took a rookie QB to the NFC championship within 3 years. Cutler will take too many risks, hold on to the rock too long or get injured.

Problem with that line of thinking is, if they brought in a rookie and flopped, the coach and GM are likely fired. Keeping cutler means they are not looking for a QB to start next year so they can concentrate on putting talent around Cutler.
