Well guys, we know we are about to do a massive rebuild. Currently with the guys I expect us to cut, or be allowed to walk I got us at $48 million in free space. Now this does not include resigning Rak, riley, Hall or Merriweather (if we keep him)

The list I expect to be cut

Everyone on the line except for Williams
Carriker
and rocca

Morgan, Merriweather are both option voids
LFB retiring.

The new coach is going to have alot of fundage to play with. Even after resigns and Free agents we likely bring in, we should still have a decent chunk to work with in 2015 as well.

So lets hope the coaching search doesnt drag out until February and hope that our staff actually does the senior bowl coaching as well.

I know we are all excited to have our money back but lets remember that FA should be a subsidy to the draft. Our long history of FAs should prove that. We should spend wisely. Younger players who get contracts looking for an even bigger contract or vets who can fill a spot for two years but not break the bank.

I personally don't want to see any 10 million + contracts this year. We can't afford it as we have to many holes. We can have several 5 -8 million contracts and do just fine.

I got to disagree, Duke. If you want a team full of mediocre players again, then go after mediocre contracts. Our problem, especially on defense, was we had no playmakers to really speak of. Occasionally DHall, Rak, and Kerrigan made big plays, but even these were rare. We need a couple of players, that when we need a stop on defense, turn it up a notch and beat their man to make a stop or a turnover. We need a couple of ball hawks in the secondary. These guys may get burned on occasion, but the smart ones know when and where to take a chance because the study and pick up tendencies on their opponents.

We have been the Stubblefield, Sanders, Smith, Haynesworth, Archuleta root and I am so done with that. How many Asmuah's turn into busts? We have been replacing DBs forever. We just drafted three. I am not a fan of the $10 million dollar FA.

All of those guys were past their prime. Also, we went hard after them, throwing money at them before we let them test the market, so their value was never truly established. That's not what I'm talking about. Find a couple of playmakers you would like. Make a fair offer, but don't try and sign them day 1. Let them feel out the market. If someone else is willing to overpay, say good bye and move onto plan B. There is a difference between paying for value and overpaying for marquee. the latter is the ways of Danny and Vinny. Also, don't go hard after anyone that is over 28 or so. Look for the guys coming off of their rookie contracts, but have a proven history of starting in the NFL and playing consistently at a high level. They don't have to be PB caliber, but they do have to be consistent performers. Most importantly, don't let Dan get any where near a FA board.

There are 2 positions that I might consider paying a premium for, ILB and S. These guys are your defensive leaders and eyes and ears as to what is happening. Its really hard for a DL or OLB to see the whole field and set the defense.

cost doesnt equal talent . LBF was a reasonably priced guy who helped us out and made 4 pbs

my contention is we need to target younger guys entering their prime and avoid older guys looking for a pay day

I am not sure how many games you watched this year, but "a couple of players" isn't going to cut it at all. We could honestly use 10 new starters. Given the fact that the candidates we are interviewing are going to move to a power-running game (non-ZBS), we will need to replace a minimum of 3 OLinemen. Bottom line is that we dont have enough money to around to get this team competitive if we only target "elite" free agents.

We are literally the worst team in the league and you are advocating bringing in 4 elite free agents. Lets say we bring in Byrd and Shields in the secondary along with Orakpo. Then we sign Alex Mack to play Center. How much improvement does that give this team? We might win 2 more games as the DLine and OLine are still a mess and we have no WR corps. We have tried this approach several times and it doesn't work.

I actually suggest for once that we try what other teams are doing and see if it works. The Chiefs took the approach of bringing in mid-tier free agents and they won 11 games in just one year. When is the last time the Skins won 11 games? Each player they brought in was about 5 to 7 million. The Skins always try to same approach and it doesn't work. Why not try what does work for once?

Again, I am not sure you know how bad this team really is. A bunch of mediocre players would a a big upgrade from a bunch of bad players that we currently have. Lets at least try to be competitive first before trying to target a few elite free agents to put us over the top.

Trust me, I've seen every game for 30 years. I know how bad we are. First, you aren't going to fill all your holes this year. Second, you don't bring in bryd and shields. You bring in one. You pair the one you bring in with Merriweather or one of the rookies. You re-sign Hall for a short term deal (2 years). Pair him with Amerson. All the sudden, you have 3 play makers in the secondary, albeit 2 of them are young, but that's what you need. You resign Riley. You draft a ILB with your second or third round pick. If he is you second, you should have a very good player and a starter. You re-sign Rak, probably for 8-10M/year. You re-sign Baker, who looked very good the last 6 games. All the sudden you have a very fast defense that has plamakers at the OLBs/DEs (depending on the scheme) and in the secondary, right where you need them. You have a young ILB crew that should have a lot of upside. It doesn't take as much as some think. So we signed two high profile players on defense and higher salaries (Rak and a safety).

On offense, don't be so sure we get away from zone read, especially if it's the OC from Seattle or a college coach. Who knows, Kubiak could be our OC. We still need an upgrade across the line. Sign Mack. The center is critical to any offensive line, especially one with a young QB as he calls out the blocking assignments. Draft a OG and a RT. We may have to make due with Lichtensteiger for one more year. Montgomery, Polumbus and Chester have to be replaced. Draft a WR with either the second or 3rd round pick (depending on when you pick your ILB).

So we have signed 3 high profile FAs, for which we have plenty of money to do. We still have plenty of money left to sign mid tier OL to fill in for a couple of years until our draftees are ready. I wouldn't bother with signing any FA WRs, we already have a plethora of mid their WRs on the team. I would only look to the draft to fill out my WR corps. I would look for one with speed that is also a KR.

Will this be a Super Bowl team next year? Nope. But this has to be a 3 year project. You draft for the future and sign FAs judiciously to fill in key areas for the present.

As far as the Chiefs, they had 7 PB players on that team when Reid took over. Their issue wasn't playmakers, it was a coach. They already had their playmakers, they could fill in with mid tier guys.

Safety is supposed to be one of the easiest positions on the field to find a player. How many have we had that was going to replace Reed?

Like 100. Don't know why it has been so hard for us. Shanahan brought in 3 or 4 and they all either sucked or were injured.

look getting mack is going to cost if he isnt franchised by the browns byrd is going to cost as well

this is a deep draft at wr so maybe we can find help there

to me our resources have to go toward the LOS on both sides of the ball first . then we move out from there

Mack will probably get 6-7M/year. That's not unreasonable for a very good center and is well within our budget.

I agree that the lines have to be addressed. I actually think our defensive line is not too bad, depending on the scheme we run. But we have to address ILB, Safety, and CB. We only have one CB under contract that played any this last year. Its the same situation at Safety. And we don't have any ILBs under contract that was active this year. We cannot ignore those positions.

i think we have one quality o/lineman and one on defense with baker being a rotational type guy i think our quality resources need to go to the LOS before we start in the defensive backfield . perhaps we dont fix the secondary this off season as we would like

i am certain Rak and riley will be resigned or their ilk i cant see hall getting a better deal either i have them penciled in for now

Did we give up on Rambo and Thomas who was hurt before the season got under way?

I believe the most valuable players on any defense are pass rushers whether they are DL or OLBs. They can make CBs and safeties better very quickly.

I agree with the pass rush sentiment. But i think we had the pass rushers, didn't just always use them. Hopefully we resign Rak and set him and kerrigan loose reaching havoc in the backfield as opposed to covering RBs in the flats.

I wouldn't spend much on any player other than Mack.

Byrd is smallish and forgive me for saying so but overrated.

The entire Oline minus Williams will absolutely NOT be cut. That's so ridiculous it's reDONKulous. You don't cut your entire oline. Sorry. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Rocca should be cut, as should Morgan.
LFB is definitely retiring.
Carriker needs a pay cut to the vet minimum at least, or be cut.
Merriweather you hold on to until you have a better replacement.

The skins will have some money to spend. Hopefully they spend it wisely.

If we are going away from zone blocking who on our line would you keep? They make too much to be backups, and are not quality starters so I could see all four aside from Williams not being here
