I don't remember that at all, but I will say two weeks ago they were the team to beat in the AFC. Yesterday's game was an annomoly, all the breaks went to Denver in first half the Pats in the second half, and OT was just dumb luck. But in the end you have to play 60 minutes of football and that's what NE did. It was a huge win for this team but there are still games to be played I think these two teams may meet again so this fan will curb his enthusiasm for now.

The 07 Patriots didn't win anything so why would anyone want to be compared to them

cry me a river

they won the division title

they won the AFC championship

they probably broke 100 records doing it

any other team would kill for that season, ring or no ring.

records are meaningless. I'd take a ring over running up the score against bad teams to get records.

18 straight games; unmatched by any team in history. What a stupid statement to make.

I don't remember anybody saying that the Broncos were the best team ever. I remember them comparing the two offenses and arguing over which one would end up going down in history as the better of the two but that is about as far as anything ever went.

Patriots fans were always saying Brady is better than Manning because of the SB wins but now are saying winning the SB is not as important as being the regular season paper champ. I suppose that is what they call cherry picking. The sad part is you don't even realize you are doing it.

How is this a discussion? The '07 Pats didn't even see a serious threat that maybe they'd have to play harder or else lose til late in the season. They played the Steelers after Clark talked smack and Brady threw two TDs over him just because he could. They only lost one game and that one game was only on the flukiest play I have ever seen.

The Broncos have lost twice already. They've scored more, but their defense is awful. If they have to play in Gillette in January, they will be substantial underdogs. The '07 Pats were an offense-first team, but they had a solid defense.

Brady's better for a lot of reasons; raw stats aren't one of them. NOBODY is saying Brady is better than Manning because regular season wins are more important. Plenty of people are saying that a memorable regular season shouldn't be completely dismissed, particularly in a discussion which is fundamentally about comparing this year's Broncos regular season (the playoffs haven't started yet, remember?) with another year's Patriots team.

Remember, Brady still has more SB wins, more SB trips and a better SB winning percentage than Manning.

While I agree the Broncos defense hasn't been great this year part of that has been missing pretty much every key player on the defense for chunks of the season. In the game on Sunday in the 2nd half of the game the Broncos didn't have a single secondary starter still in the game so it makes sense when our 3rd string safeties and corners are matched up against a HOF quarterback they are most likely going to get burned pretty badly. I'm hoping we get to see a rematch in the playoffs as these two quarterbacks and these two teams would be a matchup for the ages.

Now as to the discussion between these two quarterbacks I just wish people could be ok with saying that we are getting the opportunity to watch two of the best to ever play the game and leave it at that. Not sure why either side of the argument feels like they have to justify one over the other.

the pats schedule in 07 was rediculously hard, they beat every division leader and towards the end every team was playing their sb against us to stop us from going undefeated. what the pats did was amazing. denver doesnt even come close to the 07 pats.

Believe me that I understand about missing key contributors on defense - 3 of the Patriots' 5 best defenders are on IR right now.

But that's the way it goes. That didn't happen to the '07 Patriots (and, frankly, I think their defensive talent was better than the Broncos have this year, no offense, and I'm damn sure their offensive talent was better - this was a team so talented that Matt Cassel won 11 games with it the following year), so they dominated pretty much the whole year. They played undefeated teams twice from week 5 on and neither game was especially close. People were angry at them for running up the score because their backup quarterback didn't start the second half multiple times - think about that for a second. One game, they went up four scores by the mid 3rd quarter on the Dolphins and pulled Brady, then the Dolphins scored to close within 3 scores, so they put Brady back out there and he scored on the next play from scrimmage. They played one of the best defenses in the league and were still so much better than those players that they could afford to pick on individual starting caliber players for multiple touchdowns just to make a statement, when the player had been talking smack before the game.

Historic as this season has been for the Broncos, it's not the same thing.

I can agree that we're watching two of the best ever, but when someone makes it a debate, I know which side I'm on. :yahoo:

I'm not sure I agree. That 18-1 season, we saw greatness. If that ball had bounced out of Tyree's hands, we'd be sitting here making the argument that they were the greatest (certainly one of the few greatest) teams of all time. Instead, he holds on and the season is nothing? I don't buy it.

The 2007 Patriots were easily the best team of the decade and probably the best team of the salary cap era, despite not winning it. The Super Bowl seasons are special too - the 2001 season easily moreso - but the 2007 team was the greatest team I ever saw play (dating back to ~1996).

On whether they had a better defense or not I honestly don't know because the Broncos have not had a single game with all of the starters on the field yet. The Broncos essentially have the same defense they had last year with the only difference really Dumervil gone but replaced by DRC and Phillips. Last year's defense finished top 5 in almost every category on defense so when all the pieces are healthy this is a dangerous defense. Most likely though that just isn't going to be the case that any of that will happen so I would say right now they are a middle of the road defense that has the ability to cause turnovers.

Now about the Patriots offense and whether it was better. I guess it all comes down to personal preference in my opinion. They have pulled Peyton a couple of times already this season and other times completely shut things down and went to the ground game for the whole 4th quarter so there are some games the Broncos could have put up 60 or more if they wanted but obviously had no reason to. Both offenses will go down in history by the end as top 5 all-time so again in my opinion not worth nitpicking little things here and there to try and say one is better than the other.

I honestly would agree with you right now that Tom Brady is the better of the two if somebody had a gun to my head but it is by the smallest of margins. Both are legendary first ballot HOF quarterbacks and I am just excited that I have one of them on my team with hopefully Super Bowl possibilities in the next 2 months. We shall see. Anyway I'm just hoping the Broncos get one more crack at the Patriots in the playoffs and see this crazy match up one more time.

You really want another crack at the Patriots?
The Pats spotted you 24 points on turnovers. Really, the Broncos only scored one touchdown, other than the "gifts", after that, we scored 28 unanswered points. Your 1 real touchdown brought you back but you lost it when "crunchtime" hit. That was as bad as a half as we ever had and we still beat you.....

Ummm can't the same be said about the Broncos 2nd half giving up 4 turnovers? Plus look at a couple of those in muffed punts that have nothing to do with the Patriots actually causing it. Throw in the Broncos lost 5 defensive starters in the game. When those guys were in they held the Patriots to 0 points. I don't think it shocked any of us Bronco fans that when those players went down Tom Brady could actually move the football against 2nd and 3rd string defensive players.

I have truly only seen the Broncos play that bad for a half one other time and that was during the Broncos worst season in history about 4 years ago. Otherwise this team has never collapsed like they did. I'm sorry you can't sit here and say you spotted us 24 points but then ignore the fact that the Broncos did the exact same thing to the Patriots in the 2nd half. Also we had 2 touchdowns that were not just off turnovers in the game. One in the first half and one in the 2nd.

Also remember the Broncos were missing some key players in this one that will be most likely back for the rematch...not only the players that left the game but also Champ Bailey (Pro Bowl Corner) and Julius Thomas (leads all TE's in touchdowns this year and is a major red zone weapon for this team).

So do I want a rematch...Heck yes I do. I think the Broncos and Patriots right now are the two best teams in the AFC so who wouldn't want to see that play out once again especially in the playoffs? Sorry I'm not one of those fans that hopes my team doesn't actually have to play tough teams in the playoffs to make it to the Super Bowl.

16-0 was great to see,but thats it

2007 and 18-1 was great. So great it will be a benchmark for regular season performance for a long, long, time.

The only reason 9-7 and a SB is discussed is because the fluke play and the 1 in the 18-1.
