Beckett did have an off year, but the rest of the starters suffered because Valentine was CLUELESS about when to go to the bullpen. I have never, in 40 years of following baseball, seen any manager as bad as Valentine in that area.

The Dodgers have no need for him, so it will not be they that bite on this. That said, I have zero issue with them over-paying to fill an actual roster need.

david ortiz played 90 games
ellsbury played 74 games and hit a cool 4 home runs
team ERA was ranked 14th

2013 red sox
scored 853 runs, allowed 656 runs
ellsbury and ortiz played over 130 games each
team ERA was ranked 15th

how is the 2012 season all valentine's fault? and do you see how I think Farrell actuall does deserve the award this year?

The problem with San Diego is that they don't come often enough to boost their payroll to be able to sign top tier free agents. That, and the many personnel moves at the top of their food chain recently, including their onwer/owners, g.m, etc.

Though I thought Farrell should have won, I have no complaints with the award going to the classy Francona. It was well deserved.

My question to CaptO is this: what do the Indians do at closer and SP? Do they slot Cody Allen as closer or overpay for a guy like Balfour, Rodney, or Benoit? Is Pestano done? it looked like he was the closer in waiting until he got hurt.

Will they get a veteran starter to go with Masterson, Salazar, McAllister, Kluber, and Bauer? Will they even have the money if they extend Masterson?

Will they finally trade Asdrubal?

An Asdrubal trade is very possible. Lindors being prepped to take over

Bauer (IMO) needs to stay in Columbus. Guys got a ego the size of Texas - wont listen to anybody, insists on doing it his way. Which so far hasnt worked out too well. Hopes of being able to negotiate a multi-yr contract with Ubaldo still alive , maybe also Kazmir (if hes willing to accept a 1-yr deal)

Rumors have it that talks with Rodney & Brian Wilson are on the board. Allen & Shaw are currently in the mix to close

blaming it all on valentine is a copout

bunch of players mailed it in and did more bitching than playing

some of that is on valentine, some of that is on the players
