I really like Brian Shaw and under the right circumstance and the right team I think he would be an excellent coach, but Karl knew how to get the most out of his team and use the altitude to his advantage. Being a hilander in the altitude gives you a knowledge of that, but Shaq is a flatlander and simply does not have what it takes to be the leader of this Denver team and with Karl as head coach I do think the Thuggets would do better. Sorry Shaq, but this was not the right team for you

Denver sucks. Beating the Hawks is no hard task. Denver is going to be a reeling lottery team wondering where it all went wrong.

Denver started 0-3 last season as well. They will be fine. 2 of their 3 losses they could've easily won as they were close games. The only game this year they had no chance of winning was the Portland game.

Well, they might need to go out and sign a person up that can guard a guy like Paul Millsap. That shouldn't be too difficult so you may have a point.

When Millsap dumps 29 on you, YOU SUCK.

I think that depends on what you mean by "fine". LOL

As far as letting Karl go, I didn't favor that. Hated to see the GM go to Toronto and Iggy go to GS, too. I think we've got some young guys like McGee, Hamilton, and Fournier who could possibly develop enough to earn us what has become our traditional first round exit. We'll see. I'm not too optimistic.

I don't think their team is that great, losing Andre Iguodala was a bigger loss than what people think - he was a shut down defender and now they don't have that

I guess it's tough as a Nuggets fan, when you know George Karl did great things but he can't win in the playoffs, so you try to go younger and see what you can do and so far you've struggled

The "win by committee" type of roster they have, or at least had, can only take you so far - they need a finisher and they don't have it - that's why the Pacers have gotten so good is because they can win by committee on certain nights but when they really need a finisher, Paul George has stepped up so much and is a big reason why the Pacers went from being an underdog two seasons ago to now being legit championship contenders

:agree:
I think Iggy was a much bigger loss than Karl. He's always been a good regular season coach, but just so so come playoffs.

When is the "rooster" (Gallinari) coming back?

Supposed to be within the next several weeks. Should have mentioned him as another of the young whose development figures to be an important factor in whether Denver even makes the playoffs. He has talent, but he's been pretty inconsistent.

I loved when he was on my team....and sometimes part of me wishes we still had him.

I totally agree with the OP, franchises fire coaches because the GMs are inadequate. They have always fluttered in the playoffs because their rosters were always sub championship caliber. There is only so much the coaches can do.

This year they are rebuilding and despite having some young talent not going to be that good.

Karl had the same MO in Seattle. Sure, some is due to roster, but some also has to do with coaching. But you are correct that the coach often gets blamed for the GMs failure, but let's face it Karl had peaked with the Nuggets and it was time for them to go another direction, just as was the case in Seattle.

Unless the other direction is tanking firing good coaches is just a sign of the ownership/GM sucking. This is a star driven league and despite me not being able to think of he last time a bad coach made it to the final dance I am certain that a starless squad hasn't. And don't cite the Pistons, all of those almost stars played out of their minds and equaled a couple of stars.

The year that Dallas beat the Heat Spo was not a good coach, bordering on bad. They made it there on talent on the floor not the sidelines that time around. He has much improved over the last couple of years despite my expectations.

And we'll have to disagree about the firing a good coach; sometimes a team just needs a new direction. Flip was a pretty good coach for the Pistons, but it was time for him to go (but you may have a point, shortly after that Joe D lost his mind for a few years). Now, what they replaced him with was ridiculous, but that is another story.

I understand changing coaches to better suit the players you acquire, like hiring Dantoni is a terrible decision for dwight, or what Doc Rivers would be for Melo. Firing Karl doesn't make sense to me.

I do not think Spo was a bad coach that first year, he did a lot with out that talent in the years before they got there. I think he was handcuffed trying to stroke 4.5 egos divided between 3 players (LBJ, Wade and Chalmers LOL). He probably handled that situation poorly but they all learned from it which shows he is a good coach.

He is leaps and bounds better than what he was though, no doubt about that.
