Compounded by Kobe not even in uniform and Nash not healthy (even though will he ever be)?

How times have changed.
I remember a few years back when the Heat lost to the Mavs.
Heat fans were disappointed, but knew the year 1 roster should be our worst. We saw a bright light at the end of a long tunnel.
Laker fans back then were in that arrogant 'championship or bust' mode. Demeaning our 14 playoff wins that year.

How times have changed
Now, they are claim to be happy seeing 'effort', 'fun', 'youth', 'improvement', 'cap space' etc. etc. etc.. knowing the playoffs are a reach, let alone being anything close to a contender.

All I can say to that is welcome to the real world of every fan base.
Championships are the ultimate prize, but only 1/30 teams achieve it.
There are other ways to have fun with seasons and just enjoy what you have.

The Lakers should start off 0-3 and I'm not saying that because I hate the Lakers but the schedule is rough. No offense guys but I can't see the Lakers being anything better than 4-6 after the first 10 games but 2-8/3-7 is more likely

Definitely a difficult schedule to start the season off. It would be a good sign if they end up over .500 these first ten games.

I believe we have earned that right to feel that way & it's not just with the Lakers it's with all our sports....We are die hard fans & LA is a city of champions...that's the tradition here my friend

The only 3 other cities in the Nation that are like this is New York, Boston & Chicago. Over the past almost 2 decades these cities win almost a title every year in the NFL,NBA,MLB,NHL & College.

Over the pats 13 years LA has won 5 NBA titles, 1 Stanley Cup, LA Angels 1 world series, Anaheim Ducks also won 1 stanley cup, USC 2 national Titles Even the SParks & LA Galaxy have also won championships .

Boston has won 3 Super Bowls, Possibly 3 World series, 1 Stanley Cup, 1 NBA title.

New York has won 2 Super Bowls, 2 world series, Chicago 2 Stanley Cups, 1 world series White Sox.

I'm sorry but these fan bases have earned the right to be in championship mode or bust IMO

You are taking my post the wrong way.
True fans can and should enjoy there team for what they are.
My comment was to that fans who claim the ONLY thing worth watching/supporting a team for are championships. That nothing else matters.

If you are a Laker 'fan', and that is your mindset, then why turn on the TV this season?


As far as the city stuff, whatever.
Not every person is a fan of every sport.

I don't want to be a smart ass or anything here - but do you ever think about as a fanbase, the pressure you may put on the front office to make specific moves that may or may not hurt the team - like for example, getting guys that can win now when the team might be miserable in a couple of seasons if you can't get it done

I always think in big fan bases, when they complain that they don't have a good enough team, the front office tries to do something about it, and then when it doesn't work, they get the blame when in reality, all they're trying to do is win and make the fan base happy

Are those things that you ponder when you think about this team? In retrospect, maybe you shouldn't have made those deals for Dwight and Steve Nash last offseason? Could that have been the pressure from the fan base to get something done and the organization did whatever they could to improve right then, without really thinking about the future?

Well if you remember the Lakers where desperate for a point guard & the CHris Paul deal got well we all know what happend ( Mr Stern ) getting Nash was not a bad idea & remember we got him cheaper then what he was going to get in Toronto & Howard well it was a risk but at that time who do you choose keep Bymum or go after Howard. Lakers tried too bring some talent to try & win some more titles for Kobe so i'm not upset with this. As a matter of fact of been spoiled going to 5 Championship parades in LA..so yeah off course i always want a win but i also understand that you have to be patient & go through a different transition.

It's unfortunate that everyone was injured last season & Howard showed he was just a big baby who also could't handle the pressure.

Now let's wait & see what happends the next 2 years with free agencies. One thing is for sure if anybody is able to rebuild the lakers can do it in quicker years then other franchises. They have proven this time & time again. Now i know what your going to say " Not with Jim Buss around " & you might be right But the fan base wont put up with his crap for long & they still better keep filling up seats at Staples..I'm pretty sure he knows this.

Well, considering we were coming off of a 15 win season and then 2, 1st round knockouts, making the Finals was exciting.

Look, you guys were creaming your jeans when you snuck into the playoffs last season.
If you, within a few years get back to winning 14 playoff games, I'm sure despite all of your past success and championships, you would be equally thrilled.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But the front office gets credit for trying. I'd much rather than be the fan of a team that will at least try to keep the fanbase happy and win championships than of a team that will is content to make the playoffs or be in perennial "re-building mode".

Maybe the Lakers shouldn't have made the deals for Dwight and Nash, but at the time it looked good and most were predicting that the Lakers would make the finals when those deals were made. Didn't work out this time, but has many times before. I give the Lakers an "A" for effort, if not execution.
