It looks like he lined him up for a big hit, it just turned out bad and he hit him in the head. He will be disciplined by the league just because they want to avoid hits like this at all cost, but this is not as bad as we have seen in the past.

I have played hockey for 23 years and have a game tonight.

When you go to hit someone it is not uncommon to line them up in the cheat and then try to lift your shoulder through it, knocking said player over and taking him out of the play.

I have taken a good amount of shots to the head because of this.

When you lift your shoulder your elbow goes with it, science.

All in all it was a penalty, but as I see it his intention was not I am going to get this guy in the head. It was I am going to put a good lick on him and make sure he picks his head up next time he is coming up the ice.

I myself really believe it has to do with how and what they are taught in P.F.P. And, I.M.O, pitchers are treated as if they can not catch a ball. Myabe if they were taught to go agressively to balls instead of being taught to run away, so as not to disrupt the "real" fielders, this would not happen so often.

Call me again when they bring back hockey of the 1970's. The sport never really interested me, but, when they were fighting all the time, at least I had a reason to watch.

If I ever get a need for hockey, I just go re-watch Slap Shot for the 200th time.
