What kind shocked me is that the Cards were really late against his fastball when it was around 92 mph. Freese got a really good pitch to hit with the bases loaded and was thinking home run but he didnt get around in time. There were a few other pitches like that in the middle innings.

I thought he got in on Freese's hands on that one.

I saw Lester hitting 94-95 early on, but even 92-93 is tough when you are expecting the movement of his cutter and he throws a straight fastball.

Still better than Tebow

Does anyone else think that John Axford is secretly from a Cardinals team circa 1982?

Speaking of those 1982 Cards -

Can he play 1B now you think? I ask, as that would be a way to maybe get Beltran's bat back in, if he is healthy enough to go.
Craig would do it. Matt Adams has been surprisingly decent overall at 1B

The high socks, the mustache combo, the occasional mullet. Its like he came from a time machine instead of Milwaukee.

Gotcha, and agree. Although, I think he was at his best when he was sporting the full "Rollie Fingers" stache.

Gotta love Millar. He will do anything to get his ugly mug on camera.

In Craig's defense, didn't he get a hit later on in the AB?

The guy clearly is still hurting, but he still scares me, and had some good hacks last night. I haven't seen him much this season, but this stance may be a reason why his power is down. It is hard to get "lift" with the bat in that position. Too far to go.

Is this a new stance, or did he always use it?

Im likely never going to go back and watch this game again so Ill take your word on it. There were a couple of pitches the Cardinals were way behind on when it came to his fastball. Its frustrating to see a team beat up the best pitcher in baseball and then get totally thrown off kilter but a run of the mill ace

I am a lot of things but me wanting do to anything with the sox outside of shitting on home plate at fenway would be false.

Is John Scott now a marked man in Boston for a pretty clean hit on Erikson...just caught his head a little.

He swing still seems ok but he probably isnt going to be generating too much power this series. There was an outside pitch that he looked at on a called strike 3 that he normally swings at so he might be a bit hesitant. Matt Carpenter and him are the Cards 'intense' players.

Freese's power numbers have been down this year. He has very quietly not been very good.

Adams consistently had the best swings on Lester. He wasn't trying to do too much and hitting it hard the other way.
You can blame the Pirates for that. Some of the hits they would take away from him on crazy shifts really forced him to start hitting the ball in the other direction.
