they would be incredibly stoopid not to. 1st round pick and the pats draft Clowney.

The Pats would be stupid to trade Mallett.

For a high first rounder? I do it. I don't think anyone offers near that and any pick after 10 or so I turn down and let him play our his contract, but for a high pick I would do it.

Is Ryan Mallet better than Case Keenum? I'm a UH homer (stop giggling!), but I actually think that Keenum might run that Houston offense pretty effectively. He is very adept at running bootlegs and making subtle movements in the pocket to keep plays alive before delivering strikes downfield!

IF you could get a high draft pick, then yeah, you think about it. Mallett seems like the perfect QB to transition right in and take Brady's place when he retires. Franchise QB's don't just come along all the time. Belichick doesn't make that trade, IMO. Unless he sees someone he likes better than Mallett. Tom is not going to be elite for many more years.

I don't know that he is the future guy or not, but if he can be and isn't willing to sign an extension now, there's some motivation to get value for him. My opinion is that to this team, sitting out his contract is worth a mid-high first as a safety net, and I don't believe he has the same value elsewhere so I don't see him moving. But Tom is Tom and until I see actual signs of decline (and not the clear growing pains of an entire new receiving corps) he is the man.

I still think he is the man, though a lot of the fan base on this site don't seem to. He has 3-4 years left if he can remain healthy. That's just my opinion. Some of you other fans are already jumping ship. :L

There is no way Mallet warrants a high first round pick. That would be a stupid move for the Texans. Even a second round pick is a stretch. Mallet has proven nothing.

Why does every team think their back up QB can get a first round pick in a trade.

I agree. That is why I say he goes nowhere.

3rd Rd Pick

No real game film on him, preseason games are all you have...I would doubt any team would offer much more than his draft value was initially.

That doesn't even warrant a discussion from New England's end. If they get offered a second they tell you "he's worth more than that to the organization, so this discussion is a waste of our time."

Again, I am not saying anyone should offer more. But New England has no reason to give up a key piece at one of the most important spots on their roster for a low pick. He knows the offense, throws the ball pretty well, and could keep them competitive for a stretch if Brady were to go down for a short period. This isn't a team looking to push their competitiveness off into the future. Brady is here now and a low draft pick doesn't do anything to improve their chances over what is likely to be a couple last runs with him. Mallett, for every game he is in our uniform, does. If his value stays low and we can extend him, even better. I don't care what his value anywhere else is. Here, he is a valuable piece.

Someone eventually will offer something stupid for him like they will with Cousins because NFL teams are dumb and they never learn.

Why do that when they only have to give the Ravens 2 first rounders for Tyrod Taylor?

So you're saying Mallett sucks but he should be worth a 1st? If he is worth a first, he'll be Brady's heir apparent

The truth is that backup QBs arent worth much anymore because some teams only keep 2 on their roster and it means guys like Hoyer are gotten cheap

no im saying mallett is a stud and shoud have been a 1st round pick but he fell in the draft because teams thought he used cocaine. hes got a better arm than 90% of the qbs in the league. the problem is brady is playing till hes 45-50, straight from his mouth many times go look it up. mallett will never see the field here. teams with scrub qbs should jump on him. 1st rounder i want but id take a 2 and 4 as well.

There is no book on him to warrant that kind of trade value. You will never see a first rounder for Mallett and I highly doubt any team is stupid enough to give up a 2nd and 4th. But hey...dreaming is free.

If the patriots took a second and fourth for him, I would be mad.
