RG3 showed some of what he was last season tonight. All in all, he played decently.

He left a lot of throws on the field though and it all goes back to the mechanics. He's still not coming down on his front leg and it's causing the ball to sail.

Oh, Chris Collinsworth was dropping down to his knees for Brandon Carr. He was beat for a TD but RG3 threw the ball out of bounds instead of toward the pylon and RG3 severely overthrew Garcon for another big gainer.

It is going to happen. Time for Kyle Shanahan & his staff to work on this as well as clock mgmt. and the ability of RG3 to stop relying on Garcon so much. All of this makes it that much easier to defend this team.

Oh well - he is a young QB and should be able to correct a lot of this. He got away with some of this in college due to the completion & last season since the running game was better & they didn't rely on the pass as much. I expect to see changes but unfortunately a lot of this may not show major results until after this season.

The only bright spot about last night is that RG3 is regaining his elusiveness. He was able to turn the corner and get the ball up the field. His mechanics did look better, but he still locks into his first read way too long and is forcing throws into coverage that he never did last year. His throws did have more zip on them last night, although is was as inaccurate as I've seen him. My guess is Defenses are showing disguises in coverage that they didn't last year. Im confident that he is on his way back to last year's form. I'm not confident that our Oline can keep him healthy before he can get all the way back.

While I agree that his elusiveness returning is a good thing, he still needs to do a better job at realizing he can't get out of all pockets. That fumble at the end of the game was on him...nobody else. There were other times he got hit trying to do too much.

As brilliant as Kyle was last season, he has been equally bad this season.

I agree. My point is that they mental part of being an NFL QB has to be learned through experience. That is what RG3 is going through right now with hanging onto the ball too long and locking in on one receiver. Remember, he never had to do this in college. He was always on the move, out of the pocket. Even last year, he didn't do it as much and the defenses were usually frozen giving our weak OL a chance to gain an advantage. This year the Ds are bringing it right up the middle, our achilles heel.

Anyone notice whether there was a correlation with sailing and inaccurate passes AFTER Griff got hit a few times? I'll have to rewatch the game to see. I thought I saw a marked deterioration of play and decision making after those hits accrued.

I think it's quite obvious to anyone watching the games that the key problem is we DO NOT have the personnel on our oline to groom a singular " pocket passer". Mobility is the key. While Griff can learn and get better in his progressions and mechanics, the gameplan has to emphasize a mobile pocket for this to occur. The lone bright spot was seeing Griff run. The bad is he was scrambling for his life because Kyle refuses to shift from expecting this line to protect him as a traditional pocket passer. Nothing will change if this scheme doesn't shift to put our Oline in the position of its strengths.
