I heard on radio today that the browns getting this 1st round pick is in efforts to possibly trade the 2 or 1 first round pick to get a higher draft spot..........ummm what???

Hello Cleveland, you're clearly throwing in the towel already, just tank the season and hold onto 2 first round picks.

This will go down as either very brilliant or one of the most stupid things an org has done in the NFL for a number of years.

That's what I was saying. They better have the best draft in last 25 years to even partly make up for this bonehead move.

And let me guess they are goin after that genius Johnny Football....ohh boy

You of all people should know how frustrating this is. It was not long ago when we had Joe Banner running the show. He doesn't give a rat ass about putting the best product out there. Why do u think Lurie ( Banner's best friend) got rid of him. Banner is a mastermind w the salary cap. He does not want to spend the high dollar amount for any player. My prediction in the next draft is Cleveland will trade their top 1st rounder ( probably top 5) and trade them for more picks. I feel really bad for Browns fans. In the long run Cleveland will be better, building through the draft is the way to do it.

I wouldn't use the word brilliance anywhere near this transaction. Even if IND does not make the playoffs and this is a high pick...they still took their best OFC player not named Joe Thomas off the field. Instead of taking one step back to make 2 steps forward...this looks like taking a step back, maybe to take a step forward in 2015.

I think that if a team trades a player it took third overall two games into his second year following a very good rookie season for what figures to be a lesser draft pick the only credible justification is "we didn't know what the hell we were doing when we drafted him, but now we think we do".

There is no defending a team when after week 2 they say "aww my QB got hurt; lets go with our third string; while we are at it lets trade our franchise and future player trent richardson"

They were a popular sleeper team, now they are fighting with jacksonville to be the worst team in football... i didnt know 2 losses means end of season... lets not forget that the first place team in that division is only 1-1...

They will have the #1 or #2 pick in all likelihood in 2014. They will also have whatever the Colts end up doing (kinda hope they tank now haha).

I personally think Cle is going after Clowney and a QB and I would prefer Bridgewater over Boyd as QB, though both have their merits.

If they have to deal that later #1 along with one of their other picks to get who they want, thats how the game is played and thats why they made this deal.

In what round? There are too many other good QBs coming out and Manziel is currently viewed as - at best - a very late 1st rounder. Remember - whatever looks good on Sat does not always translate to what works on Sundays. Time will tell.

I rarely ever watch FirstTake but some good points were made about what the Browns are doing.

I hope they get their QB first and foremost. I will lmao if they Clowney first and probably take a guy like Manziel or even McCarron second.

Why?

Picking a guy like Clowney before a QB might be a great choice. Everyone LOL'd at the Texans for passing on Bush and VY, but it turned out to be a shrewd move for them. If they can get McCarron, or Boyd, or Bridgewater with a later 1st round pick (or later for McCarron) then I'm all for it.

Because he's overrated like hell. And the hell with McCarron, that guy has Alex Smith written all over him. Or worse. Give me the kid that has an incredible drive and work ethic. If that's what the reports says about either Bridgewater or Boyd, I'd take them in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even compare them to VY.

Ultimately it might not be that bad. Since they will finish the season probably as the worst team they can take a top QB like Bridgewater and then can take a number 1 WR later in the draft. As we saw this last draft very good backs with 1st round talent continue to drop so they could still get a comparable RB to richardson in the second round.

If trading up gets 'em Jadaveon Clowney, that would actually be a good move.

The argument for the Browns is that the only things they had going for them on offense was :

1) A power running back
2) An elite pass blocking, mediocre run blocking offensive line

They can tank for Bridgewater or the #2 QB and then pick a top 3 WR
