to fake an injury every single play?

It is a problem that truly cant ever be corrected, you can never prove if a player is hurt. So, what team is going to fake an injury every 2nd or 3rd play of a game. It might be the only way to stop the uptempo offenses. If Stoops was still down in Arizona, I could see him doing this against Oregon later this year. But I fear that a team is going to do this to Oregon this year.

CAL did it a lot back in 2010, but this is different, im talking practically every play. You couldn't stop it, you cant regulate or police this move.

Wasn't Northwestern already found doing this in Week 1?

What they need to do (for safety reasons) is prevent a player from returning to the field on the same series he was injured in. If your injury is so serious that you cannot get off the field without assistance, then you clearly need an extended absence.

Considering all the concern for player safety I don't understand why they haven't done this yet. At least force the player to undergo a thorough concussion test or something like that. Kill two birds with one stone.

No, you can't leave the field at all for any injury with the HUNH. They HAVE to go down just to get off the field without the other team just snapping the ball. There is no such thing as "getting off the field without assistance" anymore.

If they could leave the field without being punished for it, they would substitute obviously. If they can't even substitute when healthy, how do you expect an injured player to get off the field on their own?

they should just make the injured player sit out for the rest of the possession... seems simple, fair, and easy

yeah I agree with having the player sit out the possession. Only way I can see enforcing this rule.

Any time a player is injured and doesnt sit out a possession the team should be charged a timeout.

That will stop this fake injury BS in a hurry.

...and if they don't have any timeouts a 15yd unsportsmanlike conduct penalty straight up the wazzu.

Also, what surprises me greatly. Is, Oregon has been doing uptempo for 4-5 years. Yet, even though Oregons offensive players are in great shape and able to do this tempo, opposing defense, mostly the PAC-12 teams have yet to get their defenses in shape in 4-5 years. Did they think this was a fad and would go away so they decided to not condition their defense in the off-season?

it's a lot different for the defenses... they don't have any idea what the offense is going to do and has to be alert at all times... can't really afford to take plays off

on running plays, some receivers just stand there, but most DBs run to the ball... if a play is going to the right, the o-lineman on the left might slack a little bit, but the DE or LB doesn't know this and goes hard... etc etc

how do you defend an up tempo offense? you try and slow it down. seems simple enough. if you got the depth and it is not illegal seems fair.

I think the PAC defenses have done a good job in conditioning for the hunh. That to me isnt the issue. It is keeping disciplined while the offense is being run.

USC last year did a great job getting defensive players on n off the field even when Oregon was going at a break neck pace. They just had no idea how to defend it.

In Oregon's case (cant speak for anyone else) The running success in the hunh is largely contributed to WRs blocking down the field.

In the Ducks offense, if you are a WR and don't block on every play and do it efficient every time, you don't play.

just make it so you have to sit out until the ball changes hands twice.

point is it should not be legal.

I think sitting out a possession for every injury and after 2 injuries timeouts need to be called every time a player can not get off the field in time.

It's lame is what it is...

But I agree, kind of, it's a gray area... What if someone is legit dinged up or cramped up but it's not against a HUNH offense?

^^^THIS^^^

The pressure that the hunh puts a defense under is what causes defenses to crack, not so much the defense not being conditioned well enough. A defense has to be very disciplined to make sure that they are not getting caught out of position.

If I was playing against some of the fast paced Os these days I would "pull a hammie" every play, and it might not be faking.
