There was definitely a whistle, just curious if there is an official report about whether they found that person and either took the whistle, or booted them. I did not hear the whistle after that play.

Yes I read that and asked if there was an official report of it, by either the media, the Seahawks, or whatever. The problem is, without an official report, then websites start speculating, like deadspin and others, that the Hawks fans, in their fervor to make a noise and a world record, caused this punt block. Of course, if they thought for even a moment about it, our fans would not be making noise when we are on offense.

I assume Screamin observed it happening, but he did not specifically state that he saw it go down in his original post. The second post by Screamin sounds as if he was nearby and saw it happen.

This will happen again at the Clink and the refs will need to be very clear about what they are going to do when it happens. Right now it is in their discretion.

They DID hear it Dude. The problem is not that they did not hear it, there is no rule in the rule book saying fans can not blow a whistle and he was only escorted out because people were complaining that he was ruining the enjoyment of the people around him. he even had 49er fans telling him to stop for the longest time. It was a Mistake made by the players to stand up and so the play stood. Funny thing was he was copying how the Refs would blow their Whistles and his buddies were telling him do it again do it again. They were having fun, well for a little while at least.

To be honest those guys were not being real dicks about it but they were not listening to the pleading fans around them which were BOTH 49er fans and Seahawks fans. I wish they would have just asked him to give up his whistle and to pick it up after the game. Letting them sit through the rest of the game would have been a better punishment lol.

On another note there was a ton and i mean a TON of 49er fans at the game and when the 12th man got cheering the 49er fans got into it also screaming their heads off. The power of the 12th man just makes everyone go bonkers

I don't really care much now because the blocked punt ultimately didn't cause any damage, but isn't there something in place to address an inadvertent whistle in the rule book?

It happened to an opponent we played a few years ago if I recall correctly. The refs basically called a do-over. I don't know if that's in the books or not though.

Local publications should know better than that. If there was noise during a Seahawks offensive position, particularly a noise designed to cause a penalty (a false start to be exact, which is what should have happened instead of a continuation of play leading to a blocked punt) or cause a ball to be snapped while half the line thinks the play is dead, these guys should have known it wasn't a Seahawks fan making the noise. We're savvier than that.

From what I have read, it is not a false start because the players were not in a 3 point stance and did not appear to simulate a snap, which is the requirement for a false start in a 2 point stance. Maybe an illegal shift or something, but I think those calls do not stop the play from occurring, so the Niners would just decline the penalty.

I've been to a couple playoff games and other Sunday/Monday night games at the Clink but Sunday's game against the 49ers was definitely the loudest and most hostile environment I've ever experienced at a Seahawk game.

Hawks nest was also the most packed I've ever seen it too. Everyone was literally shoulder to shoulder screaming their lungs out every play. The atmosphere was incredible. I can't imagine if we faced the 49ers in the playoffs what that would sound like

Seriously, what is that loon talking about? He wants the NFL to tell it's fans to 'Sit down and shut up!' during games then goes on to wish for sports games to be a bastion of "joy, community and hope". There wouldn't be much joy in the stands if you ran the risk of losing home games just for cheering for your team.

Besides, if you're a fan of Seattle and you go to a Seahawks game at home you will never feel more joy, community and hope in your life!
