So gentry 1.3 WAR in a lot less games compared to Cruz 1.5... Are we really honestly losing that much? Gaining a shit ton of defense and base running but losing power. I think we will be fine

This guy gets it. They are out to make examples of people. Any resistance will be faced with worse penalties.

Not that I totally blame MLB for being like this.

They had to go before a congressional hearing (made up of grand-standing jackwagons who didn't even bother to do enough homework on the issue to be able to pronounce accused players' names properly but a congressional hearing nonetheless), were made to look pretty incompetent on their own by having to claim that they were totally clueless how rampant PEDs were in their game and the sport itself lost a lot of credibility over this.

And some players are, through their actions and continuous use of these banned substances, are looking MLB right in the eye and saying ...

I don't give a shit what you and baseball went through because I care about me and me only.

Yeah, if I was MLB, I'd be pissed too and you better believe I'd be ready to rip their careers to shreds for their selfish, callous attitude and actions.

Anyone who accepts the 50 games without a fight is getting off easy, all things considered.

I don't trust the clinic nor do I trust the MLB.

That is why there is a CBA with the MLBPA. I am sure if the MLBPA thought there was some fishy dealings they would advise all clients to appeal. But now the confessions are coming in droves.

They have no one to blame but themselves for that congressional hearing. They were banned in 91, but nothing was done about it until 2003.

Definitely agree there.

However, anyone doing this stuff after 2003 is just asking for a lifetime ban.

What I don't get is all the people that claim to know why he didn't appeal. Sure, him not appealing is a good business decision since he is a FA next season but who is to say that is the only reason he didn't appeal. Maybe, he just wanted to shoot straight with everyone and come clean. Maybe the penalties for appeal would have ended up making things worse. Who is to say he would have been able to play the rest of the season if he did appeal. None of us know the extent of the evidence either. Do you think the Rangers would want him to appeal if he was guilty? Anyway, my point is, why would him appealing so that he can play a little longer make him a better person or more loyal to the team. It seems like a rather silly way to view things.

that's a crock of crap! go to a LEGITIMATE doctor, like the rest of the world, and say "oh, by the way, i'm a big leauger, so do you think you could prescribe me something that is in compliance with mlb drug testing?" if this is true, than he is an idiot! any responsible player wouldve made that clear with any physician before ingesting a foreign substance! hopefully J.D. laughs at the idea of cruz returning and cuts the cord on this trash

You are right it is a crock. He took the easy way out. I know from experience there are approved steroids used to maintain and help increase healthy weight for chemo patients. It would have taken longer of course for Cruz to get the weight back, but would have been legal. Curious who it was that introduced him to Biogenesis.

And a lot less being scored at the plate. Give and take I suppose.

Think about it though we are last in base running. Gentry adds a weakness. Defense goes from very good to one of the best. Offense does goes down a good margin. Maybe it's a wash? If rangers win more than 90 I'm not convinced they lost much

If they were blindsided like the article says, then our FO is not as smart as we all give them credit for. They had to go into this season thinking it was a 50/50% chance he WOULD get suspended for 50 games. You don't get blindsided if there is a 50% of something happening.

Maybe Cruz was leading them to believe that he would appeal. Who knows? He made it sound like it was a tough decision but I've a feeling he had his mind made up the minute this all came out.

In related news, E. Beltre & J. Butler have been called up.

lol please tell me what legal treatments would have helped him replace 40 pounds?

There are legal steroids (medical use) that would have solved his intestinal issues and his weight would have come back quickly. Probably not as fast as the illegal PEDs---thus the motivation.

They lost a ton. They lost their HR and RBI leader, that makes a huge difference. Can they still complete? Given their weak schedule and great pitching, I think they can but I guess we will see. If either E. Beltre, Gentry, or Profar see increased playing time, perhaps they will start to turn it around on offense. Well maybe not Beltre, he has already been pretty good in limited exposure. Come playoff time though (if they can make it), they could use and likely need a bat like Cruz's.

I was lukewarm about Cruz returning, but now I hope he comes back just so people that are pissed at him won't be happy.

He is doing his time and I believe in second chances. Maybe Cruz should have watched some Baretta re-runs:
