Sale will not get the Votes because of the losing record. But interesting to note.

He has more one IP than Scherzer despite one less start and 12 More Innings than Darvish with the same amount of starts. About the same ERA+ as Darvish. Better than Scherzers.

It was interesting looking at a Fangraphs article about Win Probability. Noting that there is a consistent Large spike in win probabilty when a pitcher goes from 8 to 9 innings, Regardless of the runs given up. Bigger than going from 7 to 8.

Sale had Three-9 inning games and four 8-inning games.

Scherzer has no 9 inning games and Six 8-inning games.

Darvish's Best was 8.2 IP..and only 2 other games he went 8 IP.

I would still take darvish over any those other 2

Yeah, Sale is nasty. I watched him make my Tigers look silly the other day. I think he'll get one before he's through just not this year. He'd have to be really dominating in a couple of categories to overcome the losing record and he isn't. I think it's Scherzer's to lose. I know we're not supposed to pay attention to it but that 18-1 is hard to ignore especially with him either leading or close to it in several other stats. The ERA leaders are starting to back up to him now too. There's still a lot of baseball to be played though.

f I was voting,my vote be for Darvish.he`s got a nice number of ks with just a few less innings pitched as Scherzer and King Felix.

In the NL,my vote would go with Kershaw pretty much hands down..............

Yeah... The AL race is still wide open.
only because of the Win-Loss record.....thats the only thing that could sway it...Scherzer has an incredible win-loss record...he gets it...or his run support gets it...Darvish would have it this season based on stats, other than the w-l record...King Felix is still probably the best pitcher out of the three..just not the best this year.

and Tigers, Texas and Seattle fans votes don't count....lol, suprise, a major majority of the Scherzer votes have a Tigers logo as their favorite, lol...who would have thought. as well as the Texas fan, lol...we know you will pick your guy...and you better...lol

Scherzer does lead the league with a .90 WHIP and .191 op avg, 2nd in Ks. I don't think it's fair to say he is only in the discussion because of W/L record. Not saying you are, just seems like some are coming across as if that's the only reason.

Still innings left to decide it, AL is going to have a fun finish

Let's just pretend Scherzer is not 6th in ERA and does not lead the league in quality starts. I am not saying that it should be Scherzer, but to make it sound like his record is only because of his run support is false.

Not really. I don't look at W-L unless it's a last resort, and Scherzer is the front runner, IMO.

Scherzer has impressive ranks in all the important categories
leads the league in WHIP by a huge margin
7th in the league in IP despite having at least 1 start less than all the guys in front of him (some guys have 2 more starts)
2nd in total K's
5th in ERA+
6th in ERA
leads the league in H/9
3rd in K/9
2nd in K/BB
3rd in bWAR
tied for 1st in fWAR
2nd in BAA
leads the league in OPSA by a huge margin
leads the league in OBPA by a huge margin
5th in xFIP

I like those stats but Run prevention and strikeouts should be the most important

Run prevention is the most important, but run prevention isn't entirely in a pitcher's hands. There are things that can affect it outside the pitcher's control. That's why you need other measures, such as ERA+, WHIP, OPSA, or xFIP to help better understand how the pitcher's ERA may have been positively or negatively affected by his environment.

And why should strikeouts be most important? You don't get an extra out for striking hitters out. The team doesn't lose a runner they have on base. As long as the pitcher is getting outs, controlling baserunners, and doing everything in his power to keep runs off the board, strikeouts don't matter. Strikeouts are certainly a sign of dominance, but I tend to only go to them when two pitchers have otherwise comparable statistics (which is often the case when discussing a CYA vote).

I know how those stats work. I'm just saying darvish has more ks and a better era than scherzer he also allows less hits..

Scherzer actually allows fewer hits, but they're practically tied. And fewer walks. And his K/BB is higher, which is a sign of dominance. They're extremely close right now. Too close to definitively pick one. Plus, Hernandez, Kuroda and Sale are right there too. The last month is really going to make the difference.
