Seriously?!? I see some of the same knuckleheads on here who were saying all last season that MWP was washed up, old and can't guard anyone anymore, now saying what a mistake this is and that the Lakers are going miss his defense!!

It's like the boards have been overrun by teenage girls!!

In before Kobe requests trade to a team not tanking?

Prison seems fitting, or maybe a mental health ward.

why does prison seem fitting??

He won the league's citizenship award in 2011 for his off-court contributions. I guess prison would be fitting for the whole league then right?

That citizen award is a joke.

He is really lucky that all that happened to Harden was a concussion.

Geneh_33. Metta is headed home to N.Y. The Knicks are his next destination. He has stated that he always wanted to end his career as a Knick.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

Well, the Hawks didn't even make a play for him, their offer for Dwight was laughable I'm sure, Josh Smith is gone along with Jeff Teague and we are going to literally suck next year.

I wish Metta all the luck in the land.

I don't think Artest is crazy, I just think he likes to mess around with the media.

The Lakers will definitely miss Artest's defense. He played through a serious injury for us last year and he deserves a lot of respect from the Laker fans.

About the Harden concussion - Harden's lucky this wasn't a past NBA decade.

Either the Lakers have something major up their sleeve for this upcoming season.

OR

They are telling Kobe to take the season off, Lakers tank the season. Get Wiggins. Tell Kobe to come back in the 2014-2015 season and help start grooming Wiggins to take over the franchise.

OR

Like several rumors around the internet, Lakers management could care less what happens next season and just attempt to make enough room for LeBron James to arrive in town. At the same time NOT signing Kobe back after his contract expires. Ouch.

IMO, to someone here who said the Lakers are just aiming for a low playoff seed, an 8th or 7th, nothing more or less. Why? Why aim to get only 8th place? You're not going to win that first round anyways, you're not going to win the championship, why screw yourself out of a lottery pick? If the season was near end and Lakers were battling for a 7,8, or 9 seed, I would think Laker fans would be hoping for the 9 spot so they got a shot at the lottery.

Maybe the fouls were called differently but Artest would have been suspended then too.

He may not be crazy I just hope he is.

He has always been a malicious player. Somebody giving him an award for his citizenship just means he donated a lot of money and did some most likely court mandated community service.

As much as I dislike Artest I think you are right about the tanking.

I guess D'Antoni thinks D will tire out his players for all the shooting and running? The west seems to be more Offense oriented anyways.

Except for SA and look how that turned out. You need D to win ships, D'Antoni will never be successful with any teams the way he coaches

Are you sure about that? This was not even a technical foul:

@TF12 it would be closer but that was in play near a basketball, Artest delivered a head shot away from anything.

It doesn't look like to me that they are setting up to tank in hopes of getting Wiggins. No guarantees there anyway. This team is looking like a low playoff seed. They'll generate more revenue by making the playoffs. I think they want to save money, preserve the cap space for next season, and still be somewhat competitive.

Lol @ it being in the best interest of the Lakers to keep Artest another season. He now bricks too many shots for a professional which doesn't give them a chance in this era of play. They needed a change in style to have any kind of a chance at all. There was no way they could keep the same team from last year. Defense you say? He hasn't played elite defense for a while and hasn't made the all-defensive team for years. Like that would make a dramatic difference in their D. They need to work more on backcourt D, their D at PG was the worst. They had to use tact to let him go gracefully because he helped them in 2010 though.

do Laker fans like D'Antoni?

We all wanted Phil, we chanted his name in Staples. D'Antoni's okay and I think the roster for this upcoming season will definitely be more to his liking but we all wanted Phil, and we still want Phil.

If the plan was to tank the season, or at least have Kobe sit out the season (which I felt they should have),
then there would have been no reason to not amnesty Kobe vs World Hate.

I think their best bet is try for a top 3 pick in the lottery. Yes, they might generate more revenue by making the playoffs, but you gotta look at the big picture which is the future. If you get a great young prospect in the draft, then that may sway younger FA's to sign there. Especially a young up-n-coming Paul George. Don't think many vets want to come to a rebuilding team with just aging Kobe and Nash.
