Everyone says how the Celtics should just completely blow it up and rebuild through the draft, but do we forget how BAD Danny was doing this? He was border line about to be fired before he pulled Ray Allen and KG out of his ass. Rebuilding through the draft didn't work with Danny, so why do people keep saying this is the best option? After the Walker and Pierce era Danny was horrible trying to rebuild. Not sure why we wanna go there. Also, how bad has our luck been in the lottery? Every time we tank, we get screwed. Didn't get Timmy, didn't get Oden/Durant, but everyone thinks this is the best idea.

I'd personally go after Josh Smith in a sign and trade. Have him sign a 4-5 year max contract and send anyone back who would make the salaries work. Not sure the Hawks would wanna take on Bass or Lee's contracts, but hell Danny took on Gerald Wallace contract, so if we throw enough picks at them they would probably take them. Since we have enough picks moving forward, send them a couple of them and try to land a player who can make this team better. If the Celtics go straight rebuild, Danny wont be around to enjoy it because he'll be gone.

Thoughts?

First off, the Hawks would have to agree to make the trade and take on assets that will benefit them. Secondly, you're now coming off a hypocrite when you say Ainge sucks at drafting, then turn around and say you want to sign Josh Smith to a max contract. Which if you know anything about the CBA can only be done for 4 years, 5 years if he was resigning in Atlanta.

Most of your post could be easily applied to the Atlanta Hawks. They try to get one player that they think will fill up Phillips Arena and that is all they care about. They don't want to spend money and they don't want Howard and they didn't want Lebron.

Basically, in a nutshell, the Hawks suck and always will unless current ownership sells the team to somebody who really cares.

I agree that Hawks management sucks. But to say they wouldn't want Dwight or Lebron because they don't want to spend money is foolish when they spent $120 mil on Joe Johnson at one point.

How could a team that had Bird, Parrish, McHale, Havlicek, Russell and the like be doomed to constant mediocrity? It won't happen in Boston like it has in Atlanta.

Between Larry Bird and 2008 the Celtics were certainly mediocre.

I know the Celtics will be back, but I just don't know the route there going to take. Danny says he's not trading Rondo, but you can't believe much he says tbh.

That's true. If Danny gets offered what he considers a good deal, then Rondo will be gone in spite of past promises.

But you have to understand their thinking. They were thinking that Johnson would fill up Phillips Arena, and he did for a while. But they had no other big money players at the time. The most "big money" players the Hawks will ever have at any one time is one, in a hope that he will draw the fans. And the Hawks will NEVER pay the kind of big money necessary to land a Dwight Howard.

The Hawks were never in the bidding for Lebron, not even close, their offer was so laughable that it wasn't made public to my knowledge.

Yes, but they aren't and never have been a permanently mediocre team like the Hawks are. The Hawks will most likely never get past the second round of the playoffs, getting knocked off in Round 1 most years.

...and they've just hired Butler coach Brad Stevens as their new coach.

Umm....how does this make you Celt fans feel?

Cheap coach during the rebuild. I don't think he can handle million dollar grown ass men athletes. Rondo is a lot to deal with, Stevens will quickly learn. If we go straight rebuild, trade Rondo, he wont last long.

No doubt. I never know exactly what Danny has in mind. He'll say one thing and do the other. Once Rondo is healthy and producing Danny will probably deal him. I like Rondo, but I'm not the Celtics GM.

I would have kept both KG and Pierce. There is no way I would have traded either one. They could teach the young guys mountains of good things.

Josh Smith is another Antwoine Walker. Please stop such crazy talk.

Danny is making very good decisions and not panicking. The guys has gits and thinks out of the box.

The rebuild started with drafting Bradley, Sully and rebuilding Green's confidence.

Next phase is securing a coaching philosophy for all these youngsters to play under.

The Celtics are already two years into the process.

There is no great free agents in the next two years other than LBJ and Durant. The NBA is about to retire a ton of stars. The game, and the cap process is changing

Danny is going to be circling the skies until the trade deadline, then he'll swoop in and feed on thirsty gm's like a vulture. We have the assets to pull off some major moves and be relevant again by playoff time or beginning of next season. Watch. Word.
