When people do these age comparisons, do they seriously not look to see if they went to college or not? Or is it just another "trolling" tactic.

dude it's a way to compare people. what else do you want? age is fair way. jordan retired two years in his prime. lebron is probably going to play more seasons.

hank aaron got more at bats than babe ruth. favre played in more games than marino. records fall regardless of how many years you go to college or games played in.

comparing jordan's entire resume to half of lebron's isnt exactly fair either. it is what it is. barring injury lebron will pass jordan in assists next year. the year after that rebounds and blocks. soon after that points. hate lebron all you want. but likely, when lebron's resume is fully complete. youre going to be looking at 6+ MVPs, the all time scoring leader, a top 5 man in assists, 5+ champions. the argument for jordan's superiority is strong now. no doubt. each year it is getting weaker. and if both retired at 28, it wouldnt even be close who was better.

If both retired at 28, Jordan's resume is vstly superior. He was the best defender to ever play his position and won a DPOY. He would have lead the league in scoring six times (LeBron once). He would have shot a higher percentage than LeBron. At his peak, he would have the same RPG as LeBron despite playing shooting guard. Jordan led the league in steals twice before Age 28 (Lebron's never been higher than #3). LeBron would have about .5 APG more, but he also has NEVER been lower than #7 in turnovers. Jordan was only that high once. MJ had a better assist:turnover ratio. Jordan's win shares were higher, despite playing a position not meant to score highly.

And of course, Jordan didn't need to switch teams to win a title.

You are right that it is really one-sided at age 28. You are wrong about it favoring LeBron.

Not totally one sided.. Lebron 4 MVPs Jordan 2. Lebron 2 finals MVP and rings. MJ 1.

MJ at his peak would have had the same RPG as Lebron. Now you are just lying and making things up. MJ averaged more than 7 boards one time in a 15 year career. In 10 years Lebron has had more than 7 boards a game 8 years including 6 straight years. Seriously, if you want to have this discussion, quit making shit up.

Also, Jordan in 15 years had more than 6.5 assists one time. In 10 years Lebron has done that 7 times. Jordan's assist to turnover ratio at 28 was 1.95. Jordan's career assist to turnover was 1.96. Lebron is at 2.1. Again, stop just making things up. Youre lying. The numbers arent what you are claiming. I'm sorry, but anyone with a calculator and the internet can check.

So can somebody explain to me why Magic is top 2 in half of your polls but Stockton is barely ranked? Stockton's top 12 years are virtually identical to Magic, if not slightly superior. He was a better shooter than Magic, better at stealing the ball, and more effective at passing statistically. I gave Magic the benefit of the doubt because of versatility (6'8 > 6'1), but I can't see any possible argument for Magic being that much better than Stockton.

I guess if Hammer shouts "Magic is the best" enough, it will seep into your subconscious.

What? You mean your opinion?

My opinion is worth exactly what you're paying for it. But that doesn't change the fact that naming Scottie Pippen as the sixth best to ever play the game is insanity. Past 5, your list is horseshit.

What because you say so? :laugh3: OK. Just wondering what your reasons are for having an issue with Pip at 6 and GP at 15? Do you have any or is it because it doesnt match your list?

I hear the case for Pippen, although I agree that 6 is too high. Putting him near 15 is OK. Gary Payton truly has no place anywhere near the top 15. He was one of the best in the league for a short stretch, but his resume is not anything close to the others on your list. He was a great defender and a good offensive player too, but there are tons of guards with comparable to better overall resumes.

Payton isn't better than Stockton, Isaiah, Jason Kidd, Tiny Archibald, just to name a few off the top of my head.

Solid list. Madsen should be higher though. His dancing skills alone make him worthy of the top 10. :laugh3:

We've got guys in here saying he was the GOAT and THAT's the best highlight we can come up with? A layup against a bunch of 40 yr old short white guys name George and Fred? Not impressed. Bill Russell would have a very difficult time making a roster in today's game. He just wasn't that good, as Wilt proved.

That was in college, Russell was a world class athlete hands down, all the things every one say why MJ is the GOAT is very hypocritical when discounting it from Russell.

Damn Hammer. I just looked at your list. How do you have the Mailman ranked over Duncan? Fat Lever? That is just too dumb for words. Thurl Bailey? The same one that played for Utah? How do you even rationalize him getting anywhere near a top 30 list? Thats a good one. Thurl Bailey is better than say KG! :laugh3: Please refrain from criticizing anyone else's list until you have had your head examined.

I completely forgot about Isaiah so that knocks GP off my list. Still with the exception of Isaiah, GP at worst would cancel out and at best shut the players you named. He basically taught Kidd the game so I always roll with the teacher not the student. As far a Pip goes the same thing. 1-3 he is shutting or slowing down any player on anyone elses list. Theres not much anyone could show me to convince me that he is not a top 6 player of all time.

Dude, can you stop and think about how ridiculous it is that you keep saying this. What am I supposed to believe? YOUR opinion? I'm stating a fucking OPINION here, that's all.
