This very well might be a pitcher we'll see in the bigs this season. The Dodgers are one of a few teams interested in getting this guy. He's a Cuban defector living in Tijuana right now and just waiting for red tape to be able to play in MLB.

I'm surprised none of you guys are talking about him yet. This guy could be a free agent gem. More today on MLB Trade Rumors.

The Twins are one of many teams with interest in Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, Wolfson reports. They will send a scout to attend his showcase on June 20. We learned last night that the Dodgers, Rangers, Red Sox and Cubs are all in on Gonzalez as well, so the Twins will have some deep-pocketed competition.

Story here...

Still no one talking about this guy? :noidea:

Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, who has drawn the attention of the Dodgers, has been declared a free agent and will have a showcase in Tijuana, Mexico on June 20th, a source tells Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com (via Twitter). The Cubs, Rangers, Twins and Red Sox have also been linked to the promising hurler.

If you are seriously interested, you send your GM...

Plenty of teams are interested in 26-year-old Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, but only one of them sent their general manager to check out his showcase in Mexico on Thursday, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. As you might have guessed, considering you're at a Red Sox site, said team and GM were the Red Sox and Ben Cherington.

No posting fees, so I bet a lot of teams are in on him. Gotta think that an LA or Texas team have an advantage. Miami if their team didn't suck balls.

60 mil seems pretty steep for a pitcher that hasnt pitched in a league for 2 years according to the article and had bone spurs removed from elbow recently........

Still no real talk about this guy but surely contenders are wondering if he can be a factor down the stretch?

A few more info tidbits.

Gonzalez defected from Cuba earlier this year and took up residency in Mexico while waiting to be cleared to come to the United States. The 26-year-old stands at 6-foot-3 and was described by Sanchez as having “a fastball in the mid-90s, a changeup, fork and a curveball.”

Because Gonzalez is older than 23 years old and played in Cuba’s top league for more than three seasons, he will not be subject to MLB’s international spending cap. One recent report suggested he could get a deal in the range of $40-60 million. The Dodgers, Red Sox, and Cubs are among the teams expected to be in the mix.

So they're predicting he's a mid-rotation started who might get as much as 5/$65M.

If he ends up being Puig-tastic, it could be a bargain.......

The Dodgers are probably feeling just confident enough to sign that check right now. I sure as hell hope the Giants, Yankees or Angels get him!
