The Bears got the best receiver in the draft in the 7th round, I'd say that is the biggest steal.

I would agree with this and say Wilson was by far the biggest steal of the draft and he WILL make the team. He has looked pretty impressive in camp so far, Bears are thin at the position and Trestman would love him in his offense.

The other person I was going to mention for biggest steal was Bears 1st round pick Kyle Long. First and foremost the man is a BEAST and within the next few years when he really learns to become an NFL lineman he will easily be able to hold his own against any defensive lineman or LB in this league.

Hate to burst your Bears bubble......but an offensive lineman taken in the first......should be able to hold his own (especially if he is a BEAST as you proclaim!!).....Maybe not necessarily manhandle...but hold his own...He will be like the rest of the Bears Oline picks....not good.

Now the Steal of the Draft Bacarri Rambo taken in 6th round for the Skins...Has been running with the 1's since traing camp opened..will be starting on Monday nite against Philly, and will be an impact Safety....

You arent bursting my bubble at all because I know what Long will become in the near future and it will be a top lineman in the NFL. He is manhandling people in practice now and thats with a limited number of college games played, No OTA participation, few weeks of training camp and still learning the proper footwork. He wont be the player I am explaining within the first year but a few years down the road, look out.

It is amazing how many "biggest steals of the draft" play for the teams each poster roots for.

What a coinkydink!!!

Its going to be one of these QBs. All but one of them will be awful and then there will be one steal. Mike Glennon would be my guess

I don't really care for him but Marquees Wilson is my guy and the Bears just became my new favorite team and Cutler is my new favorite quarterback.

living in Washington ive seen him play quite a bit. hes not ALL that.. he might be an ok WR AT BEST

Yeah hard to really call a 1st round guy a steal. They are expected usually to start in this league for 10 years or so when a team is willing to invest that much in them. To me he looks like an average OL player that will rely too heavily on his athleticism and will get burned quite a bit this year and then as his talent develops will become a middle of the pack OL player. Which for Bears fans should bring much rejoicing as they haven't seen even average play in a long time.

I think if he can stay clean that Tyrann Mathieu will be the steal for where he was taken. He has first round athletic ability, hopefully his buddy/mentor Patrick Peterson can keep him on the up and up. I feel he will eventually take over the hole left when they cut Adrian Wilson.

Of course... But To be fair to me, I was very High on Means and I was hoping the Bucs drafted him, Once they did I made this statement. It wasnt like I saw him in a Bucs uni, or at OTAs or Training Camp. And it wasnt like he had 1st or 2nd round talent and dropped, very few people knew about him.

I'm gonna go Gavin Escobar from the Cowboys. He will be stealing a 2nd round paycheck for the next four years

I'm really kinda surprised no one is hyping up Damontre Moore on this site. I figured he'd be all over this thread.

Damontre Moore should be a big contributor IMO, but I still say his teammate John Hankins will be the steal of the draft.

By the way, has anyone seen NYG's DT depth latey?

Linval Joseph, Cullen Jenkins, Shaun Rogers, Mike Patterson, Marvin Austin (I think he's a really good one), John Hankins (who I think could be a probowl caliber DT), Frank Okam. YIKES!!!

Can we at least wait till Oct of the regular season before we anoint anyone steals of the 2013 draft?

So far in week 1 preseason, all we saw was 2nd and 3rd stringers battling each other 95% of the time.

This is my thinking. I know people will read reports about training camp of how a certain player is dominating but again it is not the actual season. As a Bronco fan for 3 straight years I got to read about how Jarvis Moss was dominating everybody but yet when it actually came to game time he stunk it up every year and is already out of the league if I remember right.

I don't think anyone is "anointing" these players as steals; these are just predictions.

I don't know reading through some of these some have said things like "This guy makes our Defensive Line instantly better." Sounds like they are anointing them to me.

That sounds like a confident prediction to me. And that kind of statement isn't exactly going out on a limb in a lot of cases. For example, you have a starting spot on the DL that's a big problem and you draft a player in the top 10 to replace him, it's a safe bet that the DL will be instantly better.

But see here in this thread we are not talking about top 10 picks we are talking mostly about guys taken in the 3rd round and beyond. I understand what you are saying but when I see words like "Instantly better" I begin to question whether somebody is just confident or just truly dubbing that to be truth?

That was just one example. Obviously, the later in the draft you go the less likely the guy's going to be great. But that doesn't mean it's outrageous to predict a 2nd or 3rd round pick to be a great player.

And a "steal" isn't necessarily a great player. If you get a good player in the 6th or 7th round, I'd say that' a steal. You're usually doing pretty well if those guys even make the team. On the flip side, the #1 pick overall can never be a "steal" even if he's the best player of all time because he wasn't "stolen" from anyone.

Some of my "steals" of the draft for the last few years have been:

'13: John Hankins DT 2nd round (along with Tank Carradine & Corey Lemonier - both 49ers)
'12: Josh Chapman DT 5th round
'11: Greg Little WR 2nd round & Marvin Austin DT 2nd round
'10: Jimmy Graham 3rd round, Everson Griffin DE 4th round & Greg Hardy 6th round (nailed that draft)
'09: Mike Wallace 3rd round and Jasper Brinkley 5th round
'08: Calais Campbell DE 2nd round, Chad Henne 3rd round (still like the guy) & Bruce Davis LB 3rd round (why I'm always wary of UCLA products now)

What about the steals that didn't make it? No one bats over .500 on this kind of thing
