Oh, I'm not late. I saw that one and had the same reaction, I just thought, it's Gallinari, not James, so whatever. Seriously, I know it's been done before, but I saw it at a time where I felt like posting my thoughts.
I'm not the robot, you are.
BTW, what do you think it should be? A driving dunk, assist, or miss, rebound, and field goal? If you pick up your dribble, you shouldn't be able to dribble again. Bouncing it off the backboard, if not a shot, should be a "dribble" - and no, it's not a pass, IMO. If you passed to yourself otherwise, it would be a travel, right? Can you alley-oop yourself if the ball touches nothing?
NBA.com - RULE NO. 4-DEFINITIONS
Section XI-Field Goal Attempt
A field goal attempt is a player's attempt to shoot the ball into his basket for a field goal.
Since Gallinari is not attempting to to shoot it into his basket, but rather just bounce the ball off the backboard, it's not a field goal attempt. Thus there can't be a rebound if there isn't a field goal attempt.
I'm fine with either the way it is now, or missed shot + rebound + field goal made.
