Think you are right. At this moment MY needs 809 hits to get to 3000. If he were to average 221 hits (his best year) ... that will take him 3 seasons plus 106 games in a 4th season to get to 3000. That isn't going to happen.

Not as a Ranger. I still think he can play some second base and hope that maybe somebody will need a light hitting second baseman in 2014. However, he's at a point in time when age starts to take a toll on skills. It will be interesting to see how JD reacts to his expired contract status after the last falling out.

Am sure TEX will give him a pocket watch and money for the bus.

You have no way of knowing. They will treat him like the Yankees treat Jeter and Rivera by offering him the opportunity to close his career as a Ranger with a decent deal. After all he is the face of the team

The next couple of years are those "decent deal" years.

For sure he will finish his career with TEX ... though he might not realize it right away.

Sort of funny to compare Young's situation to Jeter's and Rivera's. MY is a light hitting DH, one of the worst in the league, who has maintained his position only because of Wash's loyalty to him and a lack of interference from the FO. Free agency takes the ball out of Wash's court and back into JD's. Bottom line is they would have to create a position for him other than the end of the bench and that's going to be hard to do since there are much better options as DH's and utility IF. This FOF BS is something that was created by the media and the Rangers PR dept. for fans to hang their hats on when the Rangers weren't very good. It hasn't had teeth since the Rangers got better better and Young showed an inability to rise to the occasion down the stretch.

only compared him to them as the "face of the team" like they are for the Yankees. i realize that MY has failed to produce like he did in 2011

'There is no question that there is little common comparison between Jeter age 38 and Young age 35 other than both are liked by local general fan base. Offensively and defensively Jeter remains far and away the better player.

FoF was hung around Young's neck as a marketing move to take advantage of Young's personality and likability by the fans ... probably to mimic how NYY treated Jeter.

Jeter is officially NYY captain ... and for whatever reason TEX either chose to not bestow that title officially on Young or he turned it down. That says something either way it didn't happen.
