Hypocritical maybe, emotional for sure. Bonds was a long time great with the Giants, who played many years clean. Mota was here a while too including 2010.

Melky was a newcomer whose stats were partly fueled by cheating, so no loyalty had been built up, or at least not enough for Giants fans and team to rally around him.

It's not terribly consistent, but it's an emotional topic not a bloodless legal one. And in the end it's what prevents Melky from being signed.

Kruk is emotional because he jilted Nate for Melky.......

Are they going to welcome Mota back? It appears they are - so I don't get the difference, other than Melky's suspension being more of a gut punch. And surely Kruk isn't reacting to the mere use of steroids, since he loves Bonds. Not sure I can come up with an explanation that absolves Kruk from being a hypocrite.

I don't really feel the need to defend Kruk, but I will say that Bonds and Melky are two different situations.

I came away with the sense that Kruk was pissed that he would be so stupid - during this age of drug testing - to do this stuff. And he definitely set his position that he doesn't like cheaters and thinks that the current penalties aren't enough.

Mota is inconsequential, I don't think anyone's interested in him right now.

Sure, Bonds didn't cheat because there was no rule, and even if one considered it cheating there was no penalty to the team. I can allow Kruk that rationalization - it's the welcoming Mota back where the rationalizations break down for me.

Assuming Kruk is a proxy for the players, if I'm in that clubhouse, how can I shun Melky and still play with Mota?

Olney was on afterwards and suddenly he's saying the Yankees suspected Melky was juicing last year because his numbers blah blah... That's funny coming from them. And sure hindsight and all, kinda pisses me off that suddenly everyone should have known about Melky - he hasn't exploded any more outrageously than McCutchen or Trout or whoever else is out there suddenly being awesome.

Olney did say though that the players feelings around the league about Braun getting away with his own dabble in the dark side, was anger. Thought that was pretty interesting.

I do think Melky getting caught casts a huge shadow on guys like McCutchen, Bautista, Trout, Cruz, etc. Basically anyone that has a big year, essentially out of nowhere.

This story aint done.

....and on the flipside, HanRam must have stopped juicing to go from all-star to back up so quickly.

I actually look at it the other way.

Arias is CLEARLY juicing to start putting up HamRam numbers for the last 2 years...

lol lets give Huff some testosterone and get busted..we'd have the division lead

LOL. Yeah, and get Timmy busted, too. Sad, sad year for Timmy to go from ace to a pitcher with a negative WAR. Even Zito's having a better year.

SIGNIFICANTLY better. That's what makes this game so bananas, is there a person alive who would have predicted that?

I'm sorry to see that. Who knew he would've been such a HF about the whole HanRam-Arias thing?

True dat, with significantly better being a very, very relative term. Zito's still having a bad year, but Timmy's been so horrendous, I gotta agree that Zito's been much better than him.

That, and a random burst of anti-semitism at the same time, and he threw in the towel. But like I said, the guy was pretty tight, when filo in the context of a baseball argument told him to 'fuck off' he decided to do exactly that.

Zito's having a bad year for his paycheck, but is finally a very serviceable 5th starter. Maybe even a 4th.

Wow...

I just looked it up.

Of all posters, for tz to storm off like that in that situation is quite Krukow-ish. He has dished out MUCH harsher tongue lashings on a regular basis for the last 7 or 8 years.

Regardless, he will be missed. Pit bulls may be vicsious, but they are still part of the family.
