Self-proclaimed Asshole
What a play by Snyder.
You might try reading your posts before you hit submit. He has a grand total of 8 at-bats against LHP. How can you judge a player based on 8 at-bats? He's been atrocious in 8 at-bats?
What a play by Snyder.
I am extremely confused by your thinking of using Murphy or Martin against an LHP instead of Brandon Snyder.
Where were you planning to play Murphy or Martin? Snyder is in the lineup at 1b. Murphy nor Martin are going to play 1b? What am I missing? Who would you take out of the OF so Murphy or Martin play against a LHP?
As for Martin ... he's got small numbers against both LHP and RHP ... and isn't showing enough (.191 vs RHP, .125 vs LHP) to get playing more playing time. Snyder has had limited playing time as well ... in 65ABs he's hitting .295.
So if you are going to trash talk Snyder ... then don't turn around in your next post to promote a guy who is below the Mendoza line against both RHP and LHP who also has small numbers.
Snyder's role is to be the third catcher and backup 1b and 3b. He's the guy that allows Napoli and YT to be in the lineup the same night. Snyder's better defensively than MY or MN at 1b. Meanwhile Martin is #5 OF and #3 on my CF depth chart. He'll have a better year next year perhaps ... but for now until Moreland returns ... he's going to have to fight Craig Gentry for a spot in the lineup. When Moreland returns ... then he can fight Julio Borbon for playing time at Round Rock.
Otherwise would have been PADMY ...
Sorry, late to the party
1) But I think this shouldn't be a Snyder debate but a MY debate, but thats a another story
2) I think Snyder should play more, but its hard to remain a weapon when you get one start a week, especially at a position where you're expected to hit (Its acceptable for A. Gonzalez at SS)
3) Leonys Martin needs to go to AAA and get a chance to play everyday
4) Gentry needs to play everyday and PROVE he can't RHPs
Very impressed with Feldman.I don't care what Perez does tonight.Feldman is more experienced and deserves another startIf it goes well, too he should be the 5th starter
Not ready to say hamilton is back in the zone yet.He oly had one hit.He needs to have consistent multi hit games for his slump to be officially over.
Mike Napoli seems to be coming out of his slump .If we get his bat hot ,and Hamilton comes around,no need for an extra bat in free agency
He thinks one of them should've dh'd.
It's a very fair point that maybe Snyder would be a better hitter if he got to play more often (same as Martin). Maybe I'm being too hard on Snyder, but a lot of his at-bats this year since his 3 HR in early May have resembled his first two in tonight's game where he just looks overmatched and strikes out. His average has been on the decline and I just don't see a lot of upside in him. Some of that definitely could be a product of inconsistent playing time.
I was in favor of Murphy DH'ing tonight, as he has been in the lineup a lot more and actually has a better average against lefties than Snyder does. The team has been starved for offense lately and I just didn't like the idea of inserting a cold player who has never been much of a threat to begin with over the better overall hitter in Murphy. The first half of the game proved me right as Snyder whiffed both times up. The second half proved me wrong as Snyder did have a double and made a nice snag at 1B. It turns out it wouldn't have mattered who started in the Snyder spot tonight, as the rest of the team just punished the ball. The whole argument and my initial complaint of Snyder seeing playing time were both moot points.
I've just always thought managers tend to blow the whole righty-righty lefty-lefty thing out of proportion. It's one thing when you've got guys with major differences in their R-L splits. I'm ok with that. But sometimes it seems some managers feel as if they must start righty bats against left-handed pitchers while having lefty bats ride the bench "just because".
Craig Gentry is a perfect example of this type of lineup casualty. He is just a really solid player and is often heavily involved in the team putting up runs (as he was tonight). I think Wash is slowly starting to realize that Gentry needs to keep playing, but he still plays too little for my taste.

There are 2 jobs that need to be filled. Lewis spot ... which Wash post game has pretty much said that Feldman has earned. Need another SP to be ready to take over for Oswalt or take over the long relief spot. Looks like that may be Perez in the short term.
I don't think TEX is sold that Oswalt is okay ... we've seen this situation occur for him too often in the past. TEX will either stick with Perez as #5 or deal for an SP almost without a doubt.
I'm still on for Scutaro, Lee/Garza, and Ruiz.
Really? Sounded to me like Wash did everything possible not to give Lewis' spot to Scotty. I think he has already told JD to go get him a TORP, and that's what he's hoping for. If Oswalt goes down Feliz could take on the #5 spot, but we still don't have a game 1 pitcher.

"We are looking at a lot of guys right now for that spot but what Feldman did tonight certainly gives him the opportunity to have the ball again.
But we are not going to (mumble) anyone right now."
Don't think Wash is ever going to commit to anything permanent within hours of Colby's announcement. Perez has a sterling outing tonight and then what happens when next week Oswalt is all smiles? Could set up another episode of the Feldman back to long man saga.
I have more faith in Feldman than I do in Oswalt's back.
