they're cleaning up this year (at least since read joined them).. matt read and carl hagelin play on the same line and devestate the competition

add cam fowler (and nick grossmann for the next 4 games) and they'll continue they're hot streak (won 9 of their last 10)

That whole league could get royally f-ed though if the NHL cancels more games or the full season because they'll get an influx of NHL guys.

SEL might start signing them too if the whole season goes, which will throw the whole thing off.

oh ya, i'm not doubting SSK sucks without NHL players.. but from everything i've read, read and hagelin are twice as fast as everyone they're playing against and can essentially do whatever they want haha

I can't remember where I saw it, but the 04-05 season wasn't cancelled until Feb. Why the rush this time around?

An excerpt from the latest LeBrun blog:

One NHL owner I exchanged texts with Wednesday believed if next weekend (after U.S. Thanksgiving) came and went without a tentative deal, then it might be too late to save the season. I’m not so sure about that -- I mean, the league didn’t cancel the entire season until February in 2004-05 and while I do believe the league won’t wait that long this time, it’s still too early to be jumping off the cliff. But the clock is ticking.

Still, that owner’s belief tied into much of the doom and gloom that has come from the owners/league side over the last few days. How much of that is meant to be a scare tactic toward the players to get them to finally break? Tough to tell. Some of it surely is a message to players that time is of the essence. I also believe some of that anger/anxiety about a lost season is genuine. But I would think at this point, that feeling is shared by both sides.

There’s a lot at stake for everyone.

Seriously, we need hockey back. Juniors and this eurotrash aren't cutting it. This board has become pitiful. I haven't seen any hockey talk on the Devils board in over a month. I can't do the NBA and soccer is tough to watch on a regular basis because of the time difference. It's bad now and we're in the middle of football season. I don't even want to think about February and March.

I really dig junior hockey (it helps when you grow up in a town with a major junior hockey team) and you spent formative years with your dad Saturday nights at the local arena. Do I want NHL hockey back? Of course I do, but junior hockey and AHL games are filling the void nicely.

Who owns the authority to award the Stanley Cup? I know they always give it to the NHL champ, but is it property of the NHL to give?

Because wouldn't it be awesome is the champions from each league around the world played in a tournament with the winner getting it?

Your 2012 Stanley Cup Champion TRAKTOR YAAROSLAVL!

If I was a rich dude, that's what I'd do anyway. Create another challenge cup where the winner in North America plays the winner in Europe.

The level of play is such a drop off from the NHL. It's fun as a secondary viewing to the NHL however as the primary it's just not doing it for me. It doesn't help that there is no good college or minor league hockey near me. Anything worthwhile is about a 2 hour drive. That's one of the drawbacks of being near a major market, there are no lower level sports.

Yeah, 2 hours is the closest for me too. And it's every direction. Cincy, Cleveland, Indy, Toledo and Wheeling. 3.5 to Johnstown, 4 to Erie.

At least I have OSU...

I think it would be awesome to have a challenge cup with all of the leagues from around the world. Kind of like the UEFA Champions League.

@reporterchris All kinds of pessimism in hockey circles. It's not inconceivable U.S. Thanksgiving comes and goes before NHL and NHLPA negotiate again.

Is Chris saying the NHL is mostly dead?

Didn't someone try to sue about this during the last lockout? OHL maybe?

They basically said if the NHL isn't playing we still want the Cup to be awarded. Didn't happen obviously.

I hope the Bruins play in Vancouver whenever the fuck we get the next hockey season back. If they do, I think I may definitely be making the trip. You Canucks better be ready for heavy drinking.

I can't believe that I dedicated a night to an NHL fantasy draft. Three hours of my life wasted!
