How has Flores, if he played there, played 1st base and if Eldredge(SP) comes in late this year and is ready does he play 1st then what happens to Flores he has been such a good player for this team.
Bryce won't be up for more than a cuppo this year, and next year will probably need to sit vs some LHP. Flores is fine defensively.

Harrison came up with HUGE hype, and pitched OK last year. He has been decent this year as well. He certainly hasn’t shown the hype yet, but is still very young. He was an absolute asset.

Hicks…. Good riddance.

Tibbs looks to have a legit bat, but no glove at all.

No clue who Bello is. He was never on my radar.

So we gave up 2 SOLID prospects (Harry is 23…. That is young enough to be a prospect) for a guy who is due to be paid the military budget of a decent national power. I like that we got Devers. But taking the entirety of the contract AND giving multiple top-end kids is steep. Especially for a potential malcontent.
Harry is the only player in this deal that causes me any discomfort. But I'd have been PISSED if they substituted Whiz or Bryce. The contract is the contract. He's an elite LH bat, in his prime. The fact that we are picking up his entire contract probably allowed us to keep Whiz and/or Bryce.

Seems like a lot, but I’m guessing Posey knows what he is doing. I’m not going to second guess him… unless Devers doesn’t perform to what we expect from him.

I would have been ok if Walker was part of the trade, instead of Tibbs or Harrison since we are paying for the full contract.

He did not want to play first. I don't know about 3rd

Playing 1st was the root of why he fell out of favor in Boston (he refused to do it). We will see what happens moving forward, but I think it safe to assume he is a 3B/DH for us this year.

They brought in Bregman. He got moved off 3b.
From what I remember, Devers was pissed when Bregman was signed and refused to not play 3rd base throughout spring training but was hampered by health problems that kept him from taking the field. The press was trying to guess who would man the hot corner for the Red Sox to the end of spring training, when it was announced that Devers agreed to DH.

Then the Red Sox needed a 1st baseman when Casas went down for the year and Devers threw a tantrum about how the Red Sox don't know where they want to play him and he is not going to play 1st base. So he didn't.

And then Bregman went down and, I vaguely recall that Devers refused to slide back over to there to play. He has been solely a DH this year.

I hope that Devers feels more flexible with a new org but I'm afraid we just landed a massive diva. Some rare talent with the bat but sounds like a real clunker with the glove. His weight may become an issue as well (currently listed as 6'0" and 235 lbs at BBRef). Let's hope he doesn't develop table-panda-itis. I've heard its hard on the belt buckle (and Red Sox nation would be laughing at us for years for the payback).

Yes, possible HOF talent with the bat but very one dimensional in talent and very diva like in personality. We have him so I'll root for him. Hope it works out as well as the most positive posters on this forum thinks it will.

I wonder, also, how this affects Dominic Smith. He's been raking in a SSS for the Giants. Does he become a platoon player? This is a good problem to have. Deepens the bench.

I have heard a bunch of this situation all this spring and summer on the sports radio here and you are wrong about what happened,

After Bregman was signed in the off season they told Devers that he was going to be the DH. He requested to play first at that time and they said no, they had someone else in mind for first. Then when the first baseman was out for the season they went to him and told him they wanted him to play first. He said he had never played first and wanted spring training and the off season to learn first and since they did not allow that he was not going to play there. The Red Sox then had the majority owner meet with him on the road and he still refused to move to first. Again stating he never played there and if they wanted him to play there they should have allowed him to get trained there.

This whole thing started when the Red Sox told him he was only going to be a DH this off season and then changed their minds when there was an injury and no backup plan.

I can understand where he is coming from, but he should have attempted to play first and made a bunch of errors to for the Red Sox hand instead of just flat out saying no as a revenge for not getting his way this off season.

When they signed him to the big contract they said, “He is their 3rd baseman for the future” or something like that.

No way would Walker ever be INSTEAD of Harrison or Tibbs. That is just ig’nant.

Devers didn’t want to be there, Boston obviously was tired of him and we took on his whole contract so now they have tons of money to get another all star. I think Hicks and Harrison should have been enough, but I guess we had to throw in Tibbs as well. I’m sure Posey sees it better than any of us and I’m glad for that.

Hicks is negative value. The Sox taking him was part of OUR haul here.

No such thing as a riskless big move like this. It might blow up. No way they get back to the top without taking a couple decent chances

I have confidence Posey will sit down with him and explain the situation here. Fresh start and all

Yes another reason Posey > FZ, can't imagine him having the same gravitas in those convos

Thanks. Either my memory was wrong or the news sources I was reading was getting it wrong.

I'm not trying to knock the trade, just pointing out what I thought was drama from Devers (based on memory). If it is not as bad, as Hangman points out, that makes the trade better. The bat is amazing and so I hope he stays in good enough condition to keep it going.

I just feel like that drama was about something easily fixed with a clear plan for him delivered by Buster, which is: you play 3B until our guy is back, then you are the DH because we're half way through the season. Then over the offseason you can prep and play 1B and DH sometimes. Just HIT baby (lefties do have trouble here unless they are Teh Lord)
