These are voluntary OTAs. The rookies and undrafted rookies are (playing) practicing for their lives. This is the chance to catch the coaching staffs' eyes.

The defensive coordinator Terrell Williams still hasn't been in Foxborough after a "Medical Scare". No one seems to give a shit except for the guys practicing. Defense always appears to be ahead of the offense especially when there's a new OC.

Piss and moan all you want. 90 guys will show up in late July and within thirty days, 20 will be unemployed. Doesn't matter a bit what's happening right now. Things will start to matter when all of them can put on real pads and start knocking each other or the Minnesota Vikings around for real.

I'm honestly never too big on OTA reports other than does this player look completely lost or does it look like they understand what they should be doing. QB's have generally struggled early in OTA's with a new coordinator in the building. Timing and just understanding what is expected from the system takes time. It is why early in the season you see defenses ahead of offenses as it takes a bit to get it all clicking. Heck Mahomes his 2nd season (1st year starting) the local media were in a panic because he was throwing multiple INT's early in training camp and people were questioning whether they should have moved on from Alex Smith.

They don't have to relearn a complete new language, a complete new set of plays or get specific timing down because the ball in being thrown their way before they look back.

Over the past fifteen years, rarely do players switch sides of the ball once they leave high school. Not many top level high schools let players switch sides. Concentrate on what you do and do it to the best of your ability is the basic rule.

According to what I've seen and heard on the Boston channels is that Josh McDaniels was expected to dumb down his offensive playbook. Now the talking heads are saying that he's pushing Maye the same way he did Brady. The only difference is that Maye didn't have five years under Charlie Weiss before McDaniels took over the offense. This could be a rough road if he's expecting Maye to pick it up as fast as Brady did and then operate it efficiently.

Honestly I don't mind coordinators pushing hard in the beginning. Throw a ton at them and learn what they can and cannot handle. Then adjust as you do. My dad was a teacher for a while and he said the first week of every school year was when he was hardest on the kids. He said it was easier to get more relaxed as the year went along rather than trying to get harder when the kids would take advantage of you being relaxed at the beginning.

I remember last year with Nix that it took a bit for him with Payton, but instead of letting the time of feeling like he was drinking from a fire hydrant get him down it motivated him to push harder. Now this year I love when he spoke to the media he said I don't feel like I have to think about the offense anymore. I can now focus on trying to figure out what the defense is going to do. You are right it will take time and the first month of the season could be a bit rough as everyone adjusts to the new system, but in the end it should pay off.

Young QB in early uptake of new system. Growing pains.
They will decrease as they go along but there will still be some adjustments as we get into regular season.
Fortunatly, most every team will start the season with "issues"

Some goofball had gifted McSkippy with Tebow by drafting him in the first round (and trading up, I think). I wish I could recall who that goofball was.

While I am moderately dissatisfied with this I am not overly surprised either. If I remember they said his strength was in the run game and his pass blocking need work. Maybe he's not putting in the work?
