A Working Man was okay, nothing new here to be seen.

The Amateur, it decent. Would have been better with a different lead, some people can't carry a movie.

The Alto Kings, very slow movie. I fell asleep watching it.

Given my imbibing, it’s almost inevitable, that I will fall asleep during the end of the movie that really doesn’t quite grip me. And of course I can just go back for an instant replay the next day. Sadly it does happen.

And like Amy Winehouse, I ain’t going to rehab, no no no…

Sinners.

Let me start by saying that I am not a big vampire movie person. With that said, this is more of an allegorical story (with vampires) about how sin enters our world, makes us feel good, and can ultimately envelop us if we aren't prudent and vigilant of how it draws us in and keeps us from turning to God for true comfort. It also serviced as a reminder that even the devil knows scripture, but he also knows your desires. I thought this movie clearly showcased all the various forms sin often takes; pride, lust, greed, wrath, sloth, gluttony, envy. I also felt it demonstrated how music can often assuage or palliate us of our guilt in our sin, leading to a feeling of acceptance or concession.

There were a few acting delivery lapses and a few spotty edits, but all in all, it was pretty darn good and one of the best vampire movies I have seen.

8/10.

Starship Troopers. Still love this movie and I think it's horribly underrated.

Agreed.. but idk about underrated.. maybe originally because it's been considered a cult classic for quite awhile now.
It is a good satirical movie, but it isn’t what the book was. Full Metal Jacket captured the tone of the book much better.

I would love for a true depiction of the book to be made sometime, but I am not sure enough time has passed to separate the expectations from the existing movie.

I liked it more than you I think. An original, high-concept story, that’s pulled off really well. 9/10
It should be one of the ten Best Picture nominees.

Rewatched Falling Down in the first time in years. Still love this movie as much now as I did when it came out over 30 years ago.

Watched Ted and Ted 2 over the weekend.

Ted 8/10

Absolutely hilarious. Legit contender for top 20 comedy movie of all time. MAYBE top 10.

Ted 2 5/10

Still had some legit LOL moments, but the story itself was horrible. Who thought making Ted a legal “drama” was a good idea? I totally get the suspension of disbelief in a movie, but dumping that whole idea into a legal discussion was just a step too far.

Lucy

9.5/10

I have no problem putting this movie right next to Matrix as one of the greatest mind-fuck movies ever. This is only the 2nd time I have seen it, and that is primarily the reason I can’t give it a 10/10. 10s require multiple viewings to stand the test of time, and I just haven’t given this movie that kind of commitment yet.

Off the top of my head, the only 10s that exist are…

Saving Private Ryan
Godfather I
Godfather II
Matrix
Blues Brothers (?)
Wizard of Oz (?)

I am certain I am missing multiple, but my point is, 10s are SUPER rare, and this movie has the potential to be one.

T2
Aliens
Lord of the Rings trilogy

Easy 10s.

Lucy was OKAY, but 9.5/10? Yeesh... kind of more like a 5-6 for me. I have a bit of an issue with "Using 100% of your brain." We use it all... maybe not all at once, but every part is utilized and that's proven in various studies. The "Humans only use 15% of their brain" is simply not true. And maybe only a % of your brain is used for thinking, but your brain is constantly regulating the rest of your body and exercising simple movements/patterns, straight down to breathing - and yah.. we breathe without thinking about it, our brain is doing that for us. If you tranquilize a crocodile/alligator they will die since they have to manually breathe... how do they sleep then? They can put half their brain to sleep and keep the other half active - it's why they appear to never sleep.

We use 100% of our brains. And the concept that using 100% of your brain turns you into some cybergod was where I really started to roll my eyes with Lucy.

Limitless did it so much better and the Matrix did as well.

The domestic dispute at the beginning of Ted 2 might be my favorite scene of either movie.
