Worst teams should get the best picks.
The NBA disagrees. The most marketable players should go to the most marketable places. That's why they rig the lottery. It fits their perceptions of what the league should be.

Then they do a really shitty job rigging it.

Because the best players don’t end up in the most marketable places.

C'mon. Jerry has been trying to destroy the market with his ineptitude for years now to no avail. Fans are resilient. They'll complain publicly while still attending games and watching broadcasts regardless.
Basketball fans are not resilient. They completely leave and they don't come back if there is no good basketball when they are in their growing years.

The league already knows that. They have all the data in very specific and reportable metrics.

It’s very easy to rig one of those things with foreign substances on the desired ping pong balls. You don’t need some grand conspiracy that goes layers and layers deep. You need a desire from the top of the league and then a hush payment for a single person who is drawing the balls and could feel a foreign substance on the ping pong balls.

I’m not saying definitively that this stuff is rigged. I’m saying that the NBA is FIFA level crooked and shouldn’t be trusted and shouldn’t be given the benefit of the doubt.
"No!! FIFA didn't bribe anyone!!! They would never omg only retards could think that" -trojan

I don't get the conspiracy theory angle. Was it rigged last year for the Hawks to win it when they were supposed to pick like 10th or whatever it was?
Hmmm well was Atlanta thought to be a growing market that would be very marketable to basketball types in the Obama years??

Rigged or not, it's a failed concept. Fix the bad teams with the elite draft picks (or at least put them in position to do so). It's what every other major sport does. The NBA is mickey mousing this shit for no apparent reason.

Maybe something like the baseball model makes sense. Use something like a 3 year cumulative loss total to slot the draft order. Eliminates the one year tankers / major injury drops.
Opening your eyes should fix that

A gambling scandal that was >20 years ago and was exposed? A GM that was stupid enough to publicly flaunt that he was intentionally tanking for better picks in the leagues face?

You are free to believe what you will, and there is likely a little hank panky going on, but not the wide spread corrupt league that you are touting.
A little hanky panky going on? Like what?

So your take is that 1 random dude decided to rig it for Dallas on his on?

That might honestly be an even worse opinion than league conspiracy.
No. My take is that the NBA’s process isn’t transparent. My take is that the league is corrupt and hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt so they deserve to have to deal with all of the rumors, innuendo, and conspiracy theories. And a bunch of rubes who still believe in Santa Claus, plus one r*pe apologist, are mocking me because I don’t believe a crooked league.

Right? NBA brings up rigging the draft for Dallas and all other lotto teams just say, "sure...whatever you think is best"?

I wonder if fans know this is not the Cowboys (who also are not benefit of league rigging).
Lol which owners even care about winning anymore? They got rid of those guys like Pat Croce.

The owners watch the value of their franchises go up and they thank Silver for rigging the drafts to build up the league.

One thing that is certain is that the people peddling the "lottery is rigged" nonsense have no idea how the NBA actually operates.

Harming their small market teams just to help out the big market teams goes against their own self interest. The NBA wants all of their teams to do well.

There just isn't enough incentive for the league to take the huge risk of rigging the lottery. WHY would they do it? People really think that the NBA pressured Harrison, against his own wishes, to trade Luka to the Lakers? Really? I hate the Lakers as much as any other normal human does but it's absurd to think that the league only cares about helping them.

There are certainly times when the league will pressure teams to do what they want. But that is a far cry from rigging the lottery.

In the last 10 years the #1 pick has gone to...

Minny, Sixers, Sixers again, Suns, Pels, Minny again, Pistons, Magic, Spurs, Hawks and now the Mavs.

I don't remember the Sixers fans crying "rigged" when they won it 2 years in a row.

Maybe the league forced them to draft Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz? :noidea:

Yep...and they made Seattle the 1 who could have taken Oden or Durant.
Because the basketball market in Seattle was failing. How are the Supersonics doing these days anyway?

And before that Cleveland got the #1 pick 3 times in 4 years. Yeah I am sure they wanted Cleveland to form that superteam....ratings through the roof in a huge market LOL It's absurd

This is what the conspiracy theorists refuse to answer despite having been asked several times.
Once you enter the wrestling world you quit worrying about such things. It’s entertainment.

why's the league so in love with markets like Cleveland, SA and NO?
Opportunity for growth. When you add 5 young fans, 3 stay for life in a winning market. Only 1 stays for life in a losing market.

They wouldn't know, it's secret just between the commish and some particular team(s) but then the list of team(s) change from year to year. So eventually everyone just has to be hush hush. Considering this has gone on for 30+ years I would think at least half the league knows about this rigging. Nobody has said a word. The greatest secret ever.
The teams are not involved. You nuts have it all wrong. The NBA does this with media execs and media board members who also provide them with the data.

Ok.

That is fair.

I do think the combination of the fact that the lottery does not deter tanking along with the mistrust of even a fraction of the fans should be enough to get the league to move on from it.
