Nasty crossover and cutback in the biggest moment of history. That's the greatest of all time for you.

Hmm, what's that left hand doing? The crossover was after the defender was already pushed past (and really more of a gather dribble).

Mid-range shots, which were what I cited, are still jump shots and don't generate as many fouls as you seem to think. Drives to the basket generate the most fouls.

Midrange is a small percentage of 2 pt shots however. Those percentages have a smaller impact as a result.

What does preferential treatment even have to do with the discussion? We're talking about getting top prospects to the worst teams for competitive balance.
Does the current system fail to do that?
And I say that as a fan that has been 'screwed' by the lottery.

Ok...you just proved my point. Even if mid-range was used more, there still wouldn't be the number of fouls that you seem to think, so it wouldn't make up the difference.

The threat of the drive creates the wide open mid-range jumper. The exact way the game should be played.

Thank you for finally getting it. That took a number of pages to teach you guys this game.

And did it really help them or hurt the teams that got pushed down? Not all that much. In the free agency era it is far more important to have a GM that can build a team through trades than the draft. The draft can get you from bottom to mediocre, but you are just as likely to do that with #5 picks (which is the farthest the worst team can fall, believe me, I know), as the #1.
This system prevents all out tanking, somewhat, and is better than a silly tournament (no one is going to watch a trashketball tournament) where the best bad team gets the top pick.

I disagree

Look at how the lottery gets viewed

Fans want hope

Getting play your way to a good pick (plus players still get $$$) is better than ameaningless tournament in the middle of the year

Then you will have teams at the bottom of the playoff tanking to get a great pick instead of a 7-10 seed since they are never going to win a championship with that low a seed. And the bad teams will still stink. It does nothing bu hurt the bad teams. And while I am no fan of the in season tournament at least it is basketball, no one is watching a trashketball tournament and I don't think there is enough money in it to interest non-playoff team players to give up their off season. When the hell would you run the tournament? June? Good luck with that.

If what you were saying was in any way true of the game of basketball then only 3 pointers would be shot. You are completely wrong even though you are proud of yourself for doing the simplest math.
at this point have to hope you are just messing with us. Allow me to give you a hint what you are missing.....wayups and funks.

No, just fix the league where you don't need a preferentially treated star to compete.

Do you not understand anything about the NBA? It's a star-driven league.

Stars in the league have always been treated differently. And the same thing can be said about NFL players.

They need to stop the draft lottery and just go back to worst picks first and then go in order based on record. The in season tournament, while fun, is pointless and should be dropped.

I like the play in tournament because it keeps fans of more teams engaged. So, I'd keep that.
