They Certainly did him a solid. I still have to think there is more to this story. Every ream keeps 3 QBs. Milton was certainly a quality #2 or #3. Why trade him for equal to lesser value? He's on a rookie contract. You know what he gives you without even looking at his potential. Sorry, I'm not buying the NE FO just have big hearts and giving him a chance. Something isn't adding up.
Maybe they don't think he's all that good?

I mean, they guy has had one good game against a team's backups who did not care if they won. what did you think they'd get for him?
Certainly more than losing a pick in the deal.

The compensatory pick is basically a 6th.
didn't know about a comp. pick.....thought was Milton and a 7th for a 5th. More to it than that?

Either way we are talking about a guy who no team thought to take before round 6 who has played 1 game against backups. Seems like a fair deal. Might it backfire? Sure....but if I had to guess it would be he never becomes a fulltime starter.

It was their 5th round comp pick for Milton and NEs 7th.

It was essentially a preseason game and it cost the Patriots control over the #1 pick and possibly was the final straw in firing their coach.

Yep....and I was thrilled they did it. Though wish we never won that Steeler game which maybe cost us the #1 pick.

They lost what amounted to the 3rd overall pick in value by winning that meaningless game. Imagine what they could be getting right now if they had the top pick in the draft and teams fighting over who gets to draft Cam Ward. Could have gotten say pick 4 anyway, 2nd round pick, 1st next year and probably 2nd next year all to then take the same player you would be taking this year.

I'd be annoyed too. I've definitely wanted my team to lose games in past. Annoying when some say not a fan if you think that. Now it's true hard to watch them and cheer against them but I do watch and know it's what's best and after we lose am glad (or might even be upset like you were if we win).

Extra meaningless wins have cost us some good players in the past for sure. Andrew Luck might be the most prominent. Hope Ward isn't the next.

I used to get so upset when the Pats lost. After the last few years I was just hoping to see something positive.

Oh believe me I've seen the Broncos do this plenty. Back during the 2019 season the Broncos won a meaningless game in the final week of the season. Took us from about pick 10 to 15. Broncos were looking for a RT and WR help. Their top player from what I understand they really wanted went at pick 13 to Tampa in Tristin Wirfs. They settled for Jerry Jeudy. One of them is a top-3 tackle in football right now and the other they traded away for mostly nothing. Yay for that stupid win though.

This is a total head scratcher. Milton plus a 7th to the Cowboys for a 5th round compensatory pick?

NE lost big on this deal. Milton was a 6th round pick last year with plenty of upside.

There must be another gentleman's hand shake deal maybe a draft day surprise.

Otherwise this made zero sense.
The Pats signed Dobbs to be Maye's backup.....Milton wasn't going to get much of a chance to show anything with the Pats.

It's actually a solid move for both teams.
