Josh Simmons going at 18....??

Kinda interesting, thought he was suppose to be regarded as a higher pick......its his mock.
I see Simmons all over the mock boards, some having him going in the top 10, but also a few with him taken in the late 1st round. I suspect the latter is due to concerns over the recovery his surgery. It's why I'd really like to see him run the full gamut of tests either at his pro day or setting up a private workout for teams considering him with their 1st pick.

No sooner than posting the above when I found this latest mock from CBS Sports:

25th pick: Josh Simmons.
It would be shocking if the Texans did take an offensive lineman here (think they meant to say didn't). And while Josh Simmons is coming off knee surgery, he could end up being the best tackle in the class.

I'm a bit more surprised with the Bears taking Membou, but only because he's strictly a RT, altho I suppose he could move inside. He performed very well in his week at the Senior Bowl and flat out killed it at the Combine.

Two names I'm seeing more and more in mock drafts for the Bears 10th pick are TE Tyler Warren and RT Armand Membou. Both are somewhat head scratchers, altho not for talent reasons. Warren in particular is considered the undisputed top TE in this draft and has even been drawing comparisons to last year's Brock Bowers, who killed it in his rookie season. But unless the Bears have plans of ditching Cole Kmet in the immediate future, I don't see how we take Warren, as talented as he is. Kmet is signed thru '27, altho according to Spotrac, his contract has an out clause, even if very expensive: POTENTIAL OUT: 2026, 3 YR, $32,993,000; $3,200,000 DEAD CAP - not sure if this means the start of '26 or after that season concludes.

Membou's situation is a bit less curious. He's a RT, in which we're already set with Darnell Wright at this spot. Now it's possible the Bears could still grab him, then simply rotate him him in as needed in the OL. He did play a year at RG, so he does at least have some IOL experience. And he's been one of the OL's fastest risers in this draft.

is that a good thing?
Fair point. Perhaps I should clarify. He’s a meat and potatoes guy from what I’ve seen. Kind of gives me a, “What if Brian Urlacher was a RB?” kind of guy.

If you have the time, check out the 2nd half of the Arizona State v Texas college playoff game. Skattebo almost willed ASU to victory, but they fell short.

This site averages out all the mocks. According to them, Jeanty is gone before Bears pick at 10.

Been saying almost from the start of the mock season that there needs to be a strong reason for a team to trade up with the Bears for our 10th pick. Mainly because this is a draft that's relatively deep in overall talent, but lacking in blue chippers. So why would a team sacrifice an extra pick or picks when they can sit back where they are and grab a player who's likely as talented as who'd be there at 10. However, there are a handful who could be targeted if they're still available when the Bears are on the clock.

RB Ashton Jeanty
QB Shedeur Sanders
TE Tyler Warren
WR Tetairoa McMillan

First off, it should be stressed that all four could be off the board prior to the 10th pick. In fact, the majority of mocks I've seen have them gone by then. But as we know, drafts often fail to pan out the way most have predicted. Of the four, only Sanders is not considered the top of his group. But he's a QB who'll likely go in the 1st round, and 1st round-quality QBs always attract some needy team willing to move up. That's why personally my hope is if there can only be one still remaining at 10, let it be Sanders. Unlike the other three, who Poles could justifiy selecting (especially Jeanty), there's zero chance of us taking Sanders.

This video does a good job of updating our roster, our remaining needs, the remaining pro days, and the various meetings the Bears have already had with a bunch of draftees:

Two items to point out, the guy still shows Aaron Pryor as a remaining free agent, even tho he's already re-upped with the Bears. And apparently the brass spent considerable time with Georgia LB/Edge Jalon Walker, who's a Top 10 pick on a ton of mock drafts.

Huge error on my part - Pryor has NOT re-signed with the Bears or at least not yet. I think I got him confused with the recently signed Doug Kramer.

I'm grouping by position the players I believe qualify as a 10th pick. Obviously a number of them will still be on the board when it's our turn to select, and some will be considered too early for the taking. But there's a good chance none will be there by the time our 39th rolls around. So if you see a few who you think should receive strong consideration, then hope one will be grabbed because we're likely not to get another shot at landing him. As you'll note below, I'm leaving out QB, WR, LB, CB, & S, as I don't see any player from these positions being taken with the 10th pick.

OL
Armand Membou
Will Campbell
Kelvin Banks, Jr
Josh Simmons

DL
James Pearce, Jr
Mykel Williams
Mason Graham
Walter Nolen

RB
Ashton Jeanty
Omarion Hampton

TE
Tyler Warren
Colston Loveland

OL - Based on everything I've read or seen, it looks like those four OL will be the first four to go. There should be at least a couple still there when we're on the clock.
DL - This number could be expanded, as we have needs for both DT & Edge. I expect Graham to be gone, but there have been recent mocks where he's almost within our grasp.
RB - Jeanty is the crown jewel of the RB class, but Hampton has been steadily moving up, and some analysts believe he'll do better in the pro game.
TE - This position was not on my early mocks, but Warren has become an extremely popular choice, while Loveland is rapidly climbing the boards due to similar measurables.

I get every position you point out except tight end. We got a TE from the dolphins and could not even use Kmet properly last year. Definitely do not see that as a potential starter unless you are moving Kmet.

Yeah, the only reason I added TE to the list was because a number of the most recent mocks have the Bears taking Warren. I figured maybe there's something they know that I dont. But otherwise, it's not on my radar like those other positions.

According to "experts" these are the can't miss, blue chip prospects in this draft. Ashton Jeanty, Will Johnson, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, and Nic Scourton. If any of those drop to 10, you run, not walk, up and grab one. After that the draft is deep in starter quality players through round 2 (again, so say experts).

A little tid-bit says Raiders are not close yet in signing a wr and are looking for one..... for anyone hoping to get Jeanty,it makes it a little more interesting with Tetoria(sp?) a big possibility at 6 for the Raiders.......but I still dont think he would be there at 10 for us.

I get that, but we have Mike Singletary, we dont draft a MLB. Caleb, still unproven, no QB. Why does this end with Kmet?

Swift had a terrible season when given plenty of chances, Kmet only got 55 targets, the least since his rookie year when he only started 9 games, when he was targeted 43 times.

Are we really without any other needs where we take BPA, then flip Kmet?

Fuck Kmet.....I never liked him when we drafted, and still don't.....

That being said......ya I don't see us taking Warren.
