If it is a bidding war, that is something the Bengals never win, and the only thing they have going for them outside money is Burrow and Co.

I'm starting to think the biggest bloat in the Bengals organization is the front office staff. They have a lot of people working in the front office, and many of them are pulling multi-million dollar salaries, all while the Bengals have the 2nd smallest profit margin in the NFL. The organization is basically being run into the ground. that's why they can't sign any high end free agents sans Joe Burrow.

The issue with the Bengals isn't the cap, or it's management (though it could still be better). It's cash. Bengals are not rich by any stretch. In valuation, they are, of course...but in liquid assets, they are not. This, IMO, is where they are running into issues and why allowing this all to creep into 1 year really bit them in the ass.

If it's true they have cash issues, it is their own damn fault. They spent a lot of money buying out old minority owners over the past decade and now own almost the entire franchise outright. It would be easy for them to take on a minority owner for a small percentage and trade equity for liquidity.... But, they won't do it because they are arrogant and believe they can win doing it their way.

I can understand the reasoning for not doing that, as I wouldn't want to give up a portion of my lucrative business either. Does that mean I can have any player I want due to cash limitations, no, but I can find decent ones that don't take as much cash up front.

We are literally mad at ownership for not being billionaires outside the organization and for not wanting to give someone else a portion of their business. What percentage rate does a minority owner get for giving up his cash up front for players? I mean, hypothetically, let's say they had a minority owner that they brought in to do that, between Chase, Higgins and Hendrickson alone this year, it would cost almost $300 million in guaranteed money. $300 million up front this year, waiting 5 years to get his money back. What kind of ownership share does that equate to? How much is a reasonable share for someone fronting all the cash?

Jenkins is very good, but he’s got to play more. He started a lot of games last year that he couldn’t finish. The bears drafted him in spite of a pretty serious back injury and it plagued him his whole career up until now. I hope he plays well in the future and stays healthy, but I wouldn’t put too much money on it.

Everyone is sitting on their cash until tomorrow.

Day four is Sale Day. Agents start calling teams looking for the biggest payday and pretty much tell their players to sign or the money becomes less and will start to disappear before Friday sees the sun.

The value of an NFL franchise doubled from 2018 to 2024. And that is a conservative estimate. So, why would someone want to do it? A wealthy person looking to diversify some of their money would want to. If the Bengals were worth 4 billion, you would figure that 500 million would give you a 12.5% stake in the club. If the team doubles in value again over the next 6 years, your stake would now be worth 1 billion. Not many investments double in that short of time. No guarantee the NFL will either, but with legalized gambling this sport is going to skyrocket in value for the forseeable future.

The thing about the escrow accounts is that you will eventually pay out the guys you have guarantees on with league money (the money that is involved in the cap). So then you can take those same funds for the next guarantee. I don't think an owner has to have more than a couple hundred million in escrow to cover the couple of contracts that you have with big guarantees. This is why I think it's bullshit that people say the Browns/Blackburns don't have that sort of cheddar. I think they do and I think they don't like guaranteed deals because they are assholes and are not serious about winning.

Could’ve told yall two days ago Volson/Ford are the starting guards for next year. With a 5th round rookie backup thrown in just to say “we addressed it”

2nd worst profit margin in the NFL. and they are using that profit to pay a shit ton of their friends and relatives to "work" in the front office.

not sure how they're going to do it, but they need to increase their profit margins. they are running the organization into the ground.

Ya'll act as if the sky is falling. I mean it is not great, but as long as we get Ja'Marr at least signed long term, we are okay. However, I would be okay with trading Tee and Trey if the price is right. We are not in full rebuild mode, but the offense is pretty set depending on what happens with Tee and the guard position. The defense was bottom 5, we can be bottom 5 again without Trey. 9-8 with a bottom 5 defense.

I think at this point if you are not interested in paying those salaries, especially Trey, you stock up on young guys and begin a defensive rebuild.

Hill, Turner, Wilson are all returning, hoping Stone is ready to contribute and we go from there.

Actually kind of impressed we were as active on day 1 and 2 as we were with 3 massive boat anchors hanging around our necks this off season.

I am not screaming the sky is falling yet until I see how the whole offseason pans out. No point in screaming and carrying on and then realize shit, they did something, now I look like a complete ass hat. I am just in wait and see mode right now. Plenty of free agency left and the draft. Worst case scenario, Tee and Trey sit out beginning of the year, lose some salary and then come back to bank enough time to still be considered free agency eligible.

Right now, if we do nothing, all 3 of them players are Bengals this next year. Hoping at least Chase gets done at the least.

J'marr is next in line to get the franchise tag. Higgins is gone march 2026.
Trey is probably gone by 2026, he's under contract until then, and we can only tag one person.

hopefully we will get some picks for Higgins and Trey, but it's a toss up.

If we are going to go that route and create a complete shit show next year....you just bite the bullet, get Chase signed long term. You tag Trey over Higgins next year, and you create a media fire storm and try this again. On the other hand, Higgins makes Burrow happy, and he is younger, so if you are going to spend money long term, maybe Higgy is the way to go over Hendrickson, but you already have a 40+ million dollar receiver on the roster.

the way the front office sees it, they are getting j'marr chase right now for 21,816,000. patting themselves on the back for saving all that money.

in 2023, they only needed to sign one, jessie bates 3, and they couldn't get that done.
in 2022, they "upgraded" by signing l'ael collins, paying him around 10 million a year. terrible.

the market has simply become too much for them now. The Bengals are headed for a downgrade of sorts. for 2025, they will expect all 3 players to simply play, they are being paid, and they should play. they are certainly not going to commit to a player and wait and see that player get injured and quit. The bengals were asking a first rounder for Trey and none of the interested parties would bite.

Are you okay with where they stand at guard? Honestly, I wasn't going into FA asking for much. But, I did want deals for Tee and Ja'Marr before training camp and I wanted some resolution with Trey before it became a headache. As far as external free agents, I figured they would be limited if they wanted to sign their own guys (they didn't have to be but this is the way they do business). But even with limitations, I fully expected them to sign at least one NFL quality guard. Doesn't need to be the best, but someone better than the worst which is what we had playing for us last year. As of today, we have Cody Ford, Cordell Volson, Jackson Kirkland, and the promise of a draft? There are about 3 or 4 guys left on the market that could start for the Bengals. If they don't pull the trigger on one or two of them, I truly do fear for Burrow's health and I think we will continue to struggle with situational football - Partiuclalry around the redzone.

So no, the sky isn't falling.... But we should be doing more at least at guard.

We cannot wait any longer to get some players that can play guard. I am all good with there being a chance that Lee can take over at center and Karras to RG. But man still pick up 1 guard that can start and make Ford the 6th man.

Jenkins is visiting Seattle on Monday. I'm sure he won't get out of town without a deal. I think we might need to start considering the idea that Katie Blackburn is trying to re-enact Major League in real life. By getting Burrow either killed or forcing him out of town, the Bengals will blow any chance they have at a long-term deal for the stadium. Then they can move. I wonder where she is itching to go?
